Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Empoleon from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set. Empoleon is a stage 2, water type Pokemon card, with an hp of 140. It has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost. Empoleon's Ability is called Dignified Fighter and says that each of your Basic Pokemon's attacks does 20 more damage to your opponent's Active Pokemon. Besides the Ability, Empoleon just has one move called Hydro Splash, this move requires two energy cards to use, one each of water and colorless, and does 70 damage.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Empoleon is a stage 2 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Piplup into play and then evolve it into Prinplup before you can evolve Prinplup into Empoleon, both of those Pokemon are from this set and I've reviewed both of them the last two days. If you've read my reviews of those cards you'll know that I thought Piplup was an average Basic Pokemon card, it was a bit slow on the attack but could do above average damage, however Prinplup was below average, having a low HP and could only do equal amount of damage as Piplup. So knowing this about the first two Pokemon in this line and looking at this Empoleon card, the first thing you'll want to use Empoleon in a deck for is its Ability, if you have lots of Basic Pokemon in your deck, you can just use a 1-1-1 line of this Pokemon family and keep Empoleon on the bench and increasing all of your Basic Pokemon's attacks by 20. If you want to use this card more for attacking, being able to do 70 damage for two energy cards is very good, and I would probably up the amount of cards you have in this family to a 2-1-1 line or more. So overall, if you're building a water type deck, this family is a great one to have in your deck, not only does this Pokemon family, ending with Empoleon, able to do major damage a turn, but it can also increase the attacks of your own Pokemon.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 5 out of 5 rating. In my opinion this is a very good Stage 2 Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set. Other than the fact it is a Stage 2 card which requires time to set up, this card is very good. It has an excellent Ability which makes it possible to just use Empoleon on the bench and its only move is also very good, doing above average damage for only two energy cards. So altogether, I would give the line of Piplup, Prinplup, and Empoleon from the BREAKthrough set a 4 out of 5 rating, it is definitely one you want to consider when building a water type deck.
