Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Abomasnow from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set. Abomasnow is a stage 1, water type Pokemon card, with an hp of 130. It has a x2 weakness to metal type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a four colorless energy card retreat cost. Abomasnow does not have an Ability but it does have two moves. The first move that this card has is called Ice Age, for three energy cards, two colorless and one water, this move does 80 damage, plus if your opponent's active Pokemon is a dragon type Pokemon, that Pokemon is paralyzed. Abomasnow's second move is called Frost Breath, for four energy cards, two each of water and colorless, this move does 110 damage.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Abomasnow is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Snover into play (I reviewed Snover from this set yesterday) and then evolve Snover into Abomasnow. If you read yesterday's review of Snover, you'll know that I thought that card was a below average Basic Pokemon card, it had a good HP and had two moves, but neither move it has was that good and its retreat cost was really high for a Basic Pokemon with a retreat cost of 3 colorless energy cards. So knowing this about Snover and looking at this Abomasnow card since Snover isn't that good and Abomasnow requires quite a few energy cards to use, it would be best to only use a 1-1 line of this Pokemon family in a deck and set it up on the bench. You can get three energy cards on Abomasnow on the bench and keep it there to prevent your opponent from using a dragon type Pokemon in their active Pokemon spot, because if they do move one there you can then move Abomasnow into the active Pokemon spot and use Ice Age every turn. Otherwise, if your opponent doesn't have any dragon type Pokemon in there deck, you can mainly use Frost Breath and do major damage every single turn. Just like Snover, this card has a really high retreat cost so it would be best to figure out a way to retreat this card for free, whether that be a Switch trainer card or some other way.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating. In my opinion this is an above average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set. This card is really slow on the attack and has a high retreat cost, but both of its moves are very good and this card can do major damage in a water type deck. Together with Snover from this set, I would give both Pokemon a 3 out of 5 rating.
