Noibat 132/162 -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Noibat from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set.  This is the second of the two Noibat cards that I've reviewed from this set.  This Noibat is a basic, colorless type Pokemon card with an hp of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. This Noibat card does not have Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Mysterious Beam and for one colorless energy card you can discard an energy card attached to the defending Pokemon if you get a heads when flipping a coin.  Noibat's second move is called Gust and for two colorless energy cards, it does 20 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Noibat is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Noivern, which I've reviewed in the past, and given a 3 out of 5 rating, stating that although it can do major damage every turn, it requires three distinct energy types to attack plus has to discard an energy when attacking, so unless building a psychic and darkness type deck, the card isn't worth using, I will first review this card on its own, and then talk about using it with Noivern, then compare the two Noibat cards from this set, since I reviewed the first one yesterday.  So looking at this card on its own, I like the fact it has a solid HP and two moves, Gust does do a decent amount of damage and if you're using Double Colorless energy cards in your deck, you can essentially do 20 damage a turn for one energy card.  So this card could be used as a starter type Pokemon since it could prevent your opponent from attacking the first turn with Mysterious Beam, if that Pokemon requires two energy cards to attack, and then after that do 20 damage a turn.  I would rather use yesterday's card with Noivern since it can attack quicker and if you know you're going to evolve it, the lower HP wouldn't matter.  Compared to yesterday's card, this card has a higher HP and one more move.  If there is a way to increase the HP on these cards, I would definitely use yesterday's Noibat card because it can attack immediately, but on its own, I like this card a tiny bit better.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  Just looking at this card on its own, I would give this card a slightly below average rating, the main reason for this is even though this card has two moves, the first move it has is based off a coin flip, meaning it may do nothing at all, and as a starter type Pokemon you want to attack right away, so this card isn't that great.  Overall, I cannot highly recommend either Noibat card from this set.

Noibat 131/162 -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Noibat from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set.  This is the first of two consecutive Noibat cards I'll be reviewing from this set.  This Noibat is a basic, colorless type Pokemon card with an hp of 50.  It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Noibat does not have an Ability and it only has one move, which is called Blot and for one colorless energy card does 10 damage plus heals 10 damage from itself.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Noibat is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Noivern, which I've reviewed in the past, and given a 3 out of 5 rating, stating that although it can do major damage every turn, it requires three distinct energy types to attack plus has to discard an energy when attacking, so unless building a psychic and darkness type deck, the card isn't worth using, I will first review this card on its own, and then talk about using it with Noivern, then tomorrow compare the two Noibat cards in this set.  So, on its own, this Noibat card would be a decent starter type Pokemon, other than having a low HP, this card would be find to use in the starter spot to start the game, doing 10 damage a turn and healing 10 damage from itself as well.  So if you're facing weaker Pokemon, Noibat's 50 HP won't be an issue.  So if you're in a bind, you could definitely use this card on its own, but I probably wouldn't.  This card would work fine with Noivern from this set, giving it a nice start to the line.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  Just looking at this card on its own, I would give this card a slightly below average rating, the main reason for this low rating is its low HP, and the fact that it can do a maximum of 10 damage per turn.  But overall, this card isn't terrible and could be used in a deck if you really need it.

Braviary -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Braviary from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set.  Braviary is a stage 1, colorless type Pokemon card, with an hp of 100. It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Braviary does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Wing Attack, for two colorless energy cards this move does 30 damage.  Braviary's second move is called Dual Cut and for four colorless energy cards, this move does 80 damage times the number of heads you get when you flip two coins.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Braviary is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Rufflet into play (I reviewed Rufflet from this set yesterday) and then evolve Rufflet into Braviary.  If you read yesterday's review of Rufflet, you'll know I thought that card was a slightly below average Basic Pokemon card, it had a low HP and was slow on the attack, but the one move it did have, was good, it could do 30 damage for two colorless energy cards.  So knowing this about Rufflet and looking at this Braviary card, I am not a fan of this card and wouldn't recommend using this card in a deck, and would advise to avoid this line altogether when deck building.  First off, on this Braviary card, Wing Attack is exactly the same as Peck from Rufflet, and then Dual Cut, although it can do 160 damage a turn, it is also really slow to use and may end up doing zero damage a turn.  Of course to make this card faster, you could use Double Colorless energy and use a Trick Coin trainer to get a better chance at doing more damage with Dual Cut, but overall, I would recommend avoiding this card altogether.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is slightly below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set.  I do like that this card has a high HP and two moves, but neither move that this card is that great, and although one move has the potential to do major damage, it requires four energy cards to use and it is based on a coin flip.  So together with Rufflet from this set, I would give these two cards a 2 out of 5 rating, the same rating each card received individually.

Rufflet -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Rufflet from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set.  Rufflet is a basic, colorless type Pokemon card with an hp of 50.  It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Rufflet does not have an Ability and it only has one move, which is called Peck and for two colorless energy cards does 30 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Rufflet is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Braviary, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution.  So, on its own, if you're using some Double Colorless energy in your deck, this card would be a decent starter type Pokemon.  You could attach an item card to this card to increase its HP, and then be able to do 30 damage a turn for only one energy card.  If you're aren't using Double Colorless energy and can't increase Rufflet's HP, you would be better off not using this card in a deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Braviary, this is an average to slightly below average Basic Pokemon card.  I like that this card can do 30 damage for two energy, however this card has a below average HP, and unless you are using Double Colorless energy cards in your deck, this card is slow on the attack and has a low HP, which are two of the key elements in getting knocked out very quickly.  So, this card isn't terrible overall, but I think you'll be able to find better Basic Pokemon to use in your deck.

Chatot -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Chatot from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set.  Chatot is a basic, colorless type Pokemon card with an hp of 70, it has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Chatot does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Sing and for one colorless energy card this move pulls the defending Pokemon to sleep.  Chatot's second move is called Aerial Ace, for two colorless energy cards this move does 10 damage plus 30 more damage if you get a heads when flipping a coin.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Chatot is a basic Pokemon with no evolutions, you only have to use this Pokemon in your deck if you want to use this card.  With that being said, this card could definitely be used as a starter type Pokemon in a deck.  If you can get this card into the active Pokemon spot to start the game, you can first use Sing, to put the defending Pokemon to sleep and give you time to set up your benched Pokemon.  After putting the defending Pokemon to sleep, you can attach a Trick Coin trainer card to Chatot and have a good chance at doing 40 damage a turn with Aerial Ace.  So, if you're building any type deck and looking for a solid starter type Pokemon to use, definitely give Chatot a look.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an above average Basic Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set.  There isn't anything that I dislike about this card.  It has an above average HP, low retreat cost, and two moves, one that inflicts a special condition on the defending Pokemon and another that can do a good amount of damage, so like I said above, definitely consider this card when building a deck.

Staraptor -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Staraptor from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set.  Staraptor is a stage 2, colorless type Pokemon card, with an hp of 140.  It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Staraptor does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Cyclone Slash, for two colorless energy cards, this move does 70 damage to the defending Pokemon once your opponent switches their active Pokemon with one of their benched Pokemon.  Staraptor's second move is called Brave Bird, for three colorless energy cards this move does 120 damage, however it does do 20 damage to itself.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Staraptor is a stage 2 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Starly into play and then evolve it into Staravia before you can evolve Staravia into Staraptor, both of those Pokemon are from this set and I've reviewed both of them the last two days.  If you've read my reviews of those cards you'll know that I thought Starly was a very poor Basic Pokemon card, one that should never be in the active Pokemon spot, and I thought Staravia was average overall, it had two solid moves, but a lower HP.  So knowing this about the first two Pokemon in this line and looking at this Staraptor card, it would be best to include this line in a deck if you're looking for some power, you could evolve Starly into Staravia on the bench then start attacking with Staravia or evolve it into Staraptor and do up to 120 damage a turn.  I like the idea of using this card in a spread attack deck, since Cyclone Slash could knock out one of your opponent's Pokemon in one move and your opponent would be choosing one of its Pokemon to get knocked out.  Add a couple of Potion cards to your deck, and Brave Bird is an amazing move that does not affect Staraptor at all.  I could see using a 1-1-1 line of this Pokemon family in any type deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 5 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an extremely powerful Stage 2 Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set and one that should be used if looking for some power in your deck or if you're building a spread attack type deck.  Together with Starly and Staravia from this set, I am giving this line a 4 out of 5 rating, it should definitely be used, just make sure to not put Starly in the active Pokemon spot.

Staravia -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Staravia from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card set.  Staravia is a stage 1, colorless type Pokemon card, with an hp of 80.  It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Staravia does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Glide and for one colorless energy card this move does 20 damage.  Staravia's second move is called Quick Attack and for two colorless energy cards this move does 30 damage plus 30 more damage if you get a heads when flipping a coin.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Staravia is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Starly into play (I reviewed Starly from this set yesterday) and then evolve Starly into Staravia.  Staravia does have a Stage 2 evolution in Staraptor, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Staravia is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read my review of Starly, you'll know that I thought that card was a very poor Basic Pokemon, not only did have a low HP, because it was limited on the attack, only having one move, and the one move it had couldn't even inflict damage, all it could do was get all your Starly in your deck onto your bench.  So knowing how poor this Starly card is and looking at this Staravia card, this Staravia card is much better, again it has a low HP, but the two moves this card are pretty decent, and if you attach a Trick Coin trainer card to Staravia it gives you a better shot at being able to do 60 damage when using Quick Attack, attach a Double Colorless energy card to this card and you can do 60 damage for only one energy card.  However, even though this card is decent, I cannot recommend using any combination of Starly and Staravia in a deck, just because Starly is very poor.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set.  Despite having a little lower HP than I like for a Stage 1, this card is still average overall because of the two moves it has plus the fact this card can be used in any type deck.  With that being said, I can't give Starly and Staravia combined higher than a 2 out of 5 rating, hopefully Staraptor tomorrow is much better and gives some direction and hope for this Pokemon family.

Starly -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Starly from the BREAKthrough set.  Starly is a basic, colorless type Pokemon card with an HP of 50.  It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Starly does not have an Ability and it only has one move.  The one move it has is called Call for Pals, for one colorless energy card this move allows you to search your deck for as many Starly as you'd like and put them onto your bench.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Starly is a basic Pokemon card with a Stage 1 evolution in Staravia, and a Stage 2 evolution in Staraptor, which I'll be reviewing the next few days, you'll more than likely want to use some of those Pokemon with this card, however, since I have not reviewed any of those cards yet, I will just act like Starly does not have any evolution forms and that it will be used on its own.  On its own, this card is a very poor Basic Pokemon card, the only thing this card can possibly do for you is make sure that you have Basic Pokemon on your bench so you don't lose the game that way, but there really is no reason to have even one Starly in a deck, definitely not two, so it is a mute point of this card doing anything good at all.  So on its own, do not use this card in a deck, if you're using this entire line, at the beginning of the game, it could be helpful to put Starly into the active Pokemon spot the first turn an use Call for Pals once to get all of your Starly on the bench, other than that, this card can't attack and has a low HP, so don't use it.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 1 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a very poor Basic Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set.  There really isn't one thing that I like about this card, it has a low HP, and a very poor attack that doesn't do any damage, and just makes you include more poor cards into your deck.  So unless you are using Staravia and possibly Staraptor in your deck, stay away from this card at all costs.

Swablu -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Swablu from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set.  Swablu is a basic, colorless type Pokemon card with an hp of 40.  It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Swablu does not have an Ability and only has one move called Bind Wound that for one colorless energy card heals 20 damage from one of your Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Swablu is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Altaria, which is not in this set, but most recently in the Roaring Skies set, you'll more than likely want to use Swablu with its Stage 1 evolution form, but because there isn't an Altaria in this set, I will review this card as if I was trying to use it on its own.  So, on its own, Swablu is a card you don't want to use, not only does it have a really low HP, but the only move that this card benefits your Pokemon later in games when Pokemon have damage on them, however, with a low HP, there is no chance this card will last long later in games, you can consider this card knocked out in one turn.  So, there is really not a scenario where I would recommend using Swablu in a deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 1 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Altaria, this is a card you need to stay away from, not only does this card have a really low HP, this card cannot do any damage on the attack, and if used as a starter type Pokemon, probably can't do anything since your benched Pokemon won't have any damage on them.  So look elsewhere for Basic, colorless type Pokemon to use in your deck.

Smeargle -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Smeargle from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set.  Smeargle is a basic, colorless type Pokemon card with an hp of 70, it has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Smeargle's Ability is called Second Coat and says that once per turn you may swap a Basic energy card attached to your active Pokemon with a different type of Basic energy card from your discard pile.  Besides the Ability, Smeargle just has one move which is called Beat and does 30 damage for two colorless energy cards.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Smeargle is a basic Pokemon with no evolutions, you only have to use this Pokemon in your deck if you want to use this card.  With that being said, because this card can do 30 damage for two energy cards, one if you're using a double colorless energy, this card could be used as a starter type Pokemon in a deck, putting it in the active Pokemon spot to start the game and then using Beat every turn.  Outside of that, if you're playing a dual type deck, it may be useful to keep Smeargle on the bench and use its Second Coat Ability, for example if a move a Pokemon has does more damage if all of the energy are a certain type, you could utilize this Ability, or if you have another Ability on one of your Pokemon that enables you to move around a certain type of energy, it may be useful to retrieve that type of energy from your discard pile and put it back into play.  So overall, I think this is a solid Pokemon card and one that could be used in a deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an average Basic Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set.  One that can be used in a deck, either as a starter type Pokemon or on the bench to utilize its Ability.  There is really no complaints from me on this card, other than it takes two energy cards to attack, but even with this, it is still an average card overall.

Ursaring -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Ursaring from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set.  Ursaring is a stage 1, colorless type Pokemon card, with an hp of 130. It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Ursaring does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Drag Off, for three colorless energy cards, this move allows you to switch your opponent's active Pokemon with one of their benched Pokemon and do 50 damage to that new Pokemon.  Ursaring's second move is called Swing Around, for four colorless energy cards this move does 80 damage plus 40 more damage for each heads you get when you flip 2 coins.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Ursaring is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Teddiursa into play (I reviewed Teddiursa from this set yesterday) and then evolve Teddiursa into Ursaring.  If you read yesterday's review of Teddiursa, you'll know that I thought it was an average Basic Pokemon card, it did have an above average HP and could do a good amount of damage, but the card required two energy cards to attack and to retreat making it a little slower.  So knowing this about Teddiursa and looking at this Ursaring card, I think that this line would be very good to use in a spread attack type deck or as a colorless type line in any type deck out there.  Even though Ursaring is pretty slow on the attack, if you use Double Colorless energy cards it will make it quicker.  I like Dragon Off quite well, if you first have a Pokemon that does 10 damage or more to each of your opponent's Pokemon, then move Ursaring into the active Pokemon spot, you should be able to knock out several Pokemon in a row with Drag Off.  If you aren't using a spread attack type deck, Swing Around is a great move, that if used with Trick Coin, could do 180 damage per turn for only two energy cards, if you use Double Colorless energy cards.  So there is definitely some merit to trying to use a 1-1 line of this Pokemon family when building a deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an above average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set.  One you over how slow the card is on the attack, if you're using regular energy cards, there is a ton to like about this card, it can be used in any type deck, and can do damage to benched Pokemon as well as massive damage to the existing active Pokemon.  So together with Teddiursa from this set, I would give these two a 4 out of 5 rating.

Teddiursa -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Teddiursa from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set.  Teddiursa is a basic, colorless type Pokemon card with an hp of 70.  It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost. Teddiursa does not have an Ability and it only has one move called Flop that does 30 damage for two colorless energy cards.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Teddiursa is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Ursaring, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution.  So, on its own, if you're using Double Colorless energy cards in your deck, this card can essentially do 30 damage for one energy card, which would be very good as a starter type Pokemon in any type deck out there.  But because this card requires two energy cards to attack and to retreat this card isn't a strong starter type Pokemon by any means but one that could be used in a deck and used fairly regularly.  It would also make a good card to use in the active Pokemon spot before evolving into Ursaring.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Ursaring, this is an average Basic Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set.  I like that this card has an above average HP, can be used in any type deck, and can do above average damage, the only thing holding me back on giving this card a little better rating is its high retreat cost and fact it requires two energy cards to attack.  But, overall this card is a solid one and one that can be used on its own.

Noctowl -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Noctowl from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set.  Noctowl is a stage 1, colorless type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90. It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Noctowl does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called High Flight, for two colorless energy cards this move does 20 damage times the number of items cards in each person's hands.  Noctowl's second move is called Speed Dive and for three colorless energy cards this move does 70 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Noctowl is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Hoothoot into play (I reviewed Hoothoot from this set yesterday) and then evolve Hoothoot into Noctowl.  If you read yesterday's review of Hoothoot, you'll know I thought that card was extremely poor.  It had a decent HP and retreat cost, but it only had one move, that required two energy cards to use, and couldn't even do any damage, only prevented your opponent from using any Item cards during their next turn.  So knowing how poor Hoothoot is and looking at this Noctowl card, there isn't anything on this card that makes this line a must have for any reason and there is really no reason to use this line in a deck.  Unless you know you are going to be really heavy on Item cards in your deck, High Flight may end up doing no damage at all, and although Speed Dive does do above average damage, putting three energy cards on a card with only 90 HP isn't the smartest thing to do.  So as far as strategy goes, look elsewhere and do not use this card in a deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set.  I like that this card has a solid HP and low retreat cost, two moves, and can be used in any type deck.  With all of that being said, I still wouldn't recommend using this card in a deck because it is slow on the attack and is limited in what it can do if you don't use Item cards in your deck.  Together with Hoothoot from this set, I cannot give this line higher than a 2 out of 5 rating.

Hoothoot -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Hoothoot from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set.  Hoothoot is a basic, colorless type Pokemon card with an hp of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Hoothoot does not have an Ability and it only has one move, which is called Proclaim the Night and for two colorless energy cards disables your opponent from playing any item cards from their hand during their next turn.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Hoothoot is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Noctowl, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution.  So, on its own, there is absolutely no reason to use this card in a deck, not only can it not do damage when attacking, but it requires two energy cards to attack instead of one, making it slow for a starter type Pokemon.  So unless you're using Noctowl in your deck, definitely do not use this card in a deck, there is just not a reason to, even if you put two energy cards on Hoothoot and use Proclaim the Night, it may not affect your opponent anyway.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 1 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Noctowl, this is a very poor Basic Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set.  Other than having an average HP and low retreat cost, this card is extremely limited in what it can do, slow on the attack, and more than likely won't do anything to your opponent's Pokemon or strategy at all, so definitely look elsewhere when looking for colorless type Pokemon to use in a deck.

Snorlax -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Snorlax from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set.  Snorlax is a basic, colorless type Pokemon card with an hp of 120, it has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a four colorless energy card retreat cost.  Snorlax's Ability is called Plump Body and says that any damage done to Snorlax by attacks is reduced by 30.  Besides the Ability, Snorlax has just one move called Knock Away, this move requires four colorless energy cards to use, and does 50 damage plus 30 more damage if you get a heads when flipping a coin.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Snorlax is a basic Pokemon with no evolutions, you only have to use this Pokemon in your deck if you want to use this card.  With that being said, there is really no reason to use this card in a deck, at least in my opinion.  It is very slow on the attack, like most Snorlax cards are, and can only do below average damage unless you get a heads when flipping a coin, and even then, it is essentially an average move.  So unless you want to eat up a bunch of energy cards to attack with this card and discard a bunch of energy cards when retreating, do not use this card in a deck.  The only way I would use this card in a deck at all, is if you plan on having 4 Double Colorless energy cards in your deck, then potentially you would only have to attach two energy cards to this card to attack.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a slightly below average Basic Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set.  Even though this card has a high HP, and a move that can do up to 80 damage a turn, plus an effective Ability, I just don't think this card is that good.  It is too slow on the attack and too under-powered for me to consider it even average.

Dodrio -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Dodrio from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set.  Dodrio is a stage 1, colorless type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90. It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Dodrio's Ability is called Retreat Aid and says that as long as Dodrio is on the bench, your active Pokemon has a two colorless energy card less retreat cost.  Besides the Ability, Dodrio just has one move called Fury Attack that does 40 damage times the number of heads you get when you flip 3 coins, all for three colorless energy cards.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Dodrio is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Doduo into play (I reviewed Doduo from this set the past two days) and then evolve Doduo into Dodrio.  If you read my reviews of the two Doduo cards in this set, I thought both cards were a little below average, both were very similar overall, the only difference between the two was the first move on each card, both required coin flips but yesterday's card had a better chance at hitting and doing at least 10 damage a turn, whereas the first Doduo card I reviewed had about a 1 in 4 chance of hitting.  So knowing this about the two Doduo cards in this set and looking at this Dodrio card, the main reason you'd want to use this card in a deck is to put it on the bench and give almost all of your Pokemon a free retreat cost, or at least a significantly less retreat cost.  I would definitely try and work in a 1-1 line of Doduo and Dodrio into almost any type deck out there for this specific purpose.  If you do need to put Dodrio into the active Pokemon spot, try attaching a Trick Coin trainer to this card so that you have a better chance of flipping more heads when you use Fury Attack, and you can also use a Double Colorless energy to make this card quicker on the attack.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a very solid Stage 1 Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set.  I think this card's Ability alone makes this card very usable in the TCG today, and like I said above, this card should definitely be considered for almost all decks out there.  So you definitely can't go wrong by using a 1-1 line of Doduo and Dodrio in your deck, together I would rate the two Pokemon a 3 out of 5.

Doduo 116/162 -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Doduo from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set.  This is the second of the two Doduo cards that I've reviewed from this set.  Doduo is a basic, colorless type Pokemon card with an hp of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. This card does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is Double Stab, for one colorless energy card this move does 10 damage times the number of heads you get when flipping two coins.  Doduo's second move is called Doduo Delivery, and for two colorless energy cards this move allows you to draw two cards.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Doduo is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Dodrio, which I'll be reviewing in two days, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I will just assess this card on its own, but will compare it to yesterday's Doduo card.  So compared to yesterday's card, this card is very similar, the only difference being Doduo's first move.  Yesterday's card could do 30 damage for one energy card, if you flipped two heads when flipping two coins, otherwise the move did nothing, today's Doduo card can do up to 20 damage if you get two heads, otherwise 10 damage per heads when flipping two coins.  Neither Doduo card is great, but if you have to use one in the active Pokemon spot, I would prefer this card because it has a better chance of doing damage when attacking.  So unless you're using Doduo with Dodrio, I would not use either Doduo card from this set in a deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Dodrio, this is a below average Basic Pokemon card.  Very similar to yesterday's Doduo card, this card does have a solid HP, low retreat cost, and two moves, but it just isn't that powerful and the one move it can do damage with is a coin flip based move, so you're better off leaving this card on the bench or out of your deck entirely.

Doduo 115/162 -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Doduo from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set.  This is the first of two consecutive Doduo cards I'll be reviewing from this set.  Doduo is a basic, colorless type Pokemon card with an hp of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. This card does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is Simultaneous Peck, for one colorless energy card this move does 30 damage if you get two heads when you flip two coins, otherwise the move does nothing.  Doduo's second move is called Doduo Delivery and for two colorless energy cards this move allows you to draw 2 cards.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Doduo is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Dodrio, which I'll be reviewing in two days, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, and haven't reviewed the other Doduo card from this set, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution and do not know which Doduo card is better.  So, on its own, I cannot come up with a reason to use this card in a deck.  Yes, this card can be used in any type deck, and yes it has the potential to do 30 damage right away to start the game, but since this card can only do damage if you get two heads in a row, which is a 25% chance of happening, I would not use this card in a deck.  Plus, Doduo's second move, Doduo Delivery can easily be replaced by a trainer card.  So unless you're using Dodrio in this deck, do not use this card at all, it just isn't worth the risk.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Dodrio, this is a below average Basic Pokemon card.  I like that this card has a solid HP, low retreat cost, and two moves, but neither move on this card is that great, meaning although this card has plenty of options in battle, it just isn't that great, and shouldn't be used in a deck on its own.

Meowth -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Meowth from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set.  Meowth is a basic, colorless type Pokemon card with an hp of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Meowth does not have an Ability and it only has one move.  This move is called Exhausted Tackle, for one colorless energy card this move does 30 damage to either the defending Pokemon or Meowth depending on if you get a heads or tails respectively.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Meowth is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Persian, with the most recent Persian card being in the Ancient Origins and Generations sets, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon, so you'll have to go back and read my review of Persian from Ancient Origins.  In this section, I will only be looking at Meowth on its own.  So on its own, there is no way you want to use this card in a deck, yes it can do major damage for only one energy card, and it warrants a look if you attach a Trick Coin trainer to this card giving you two chances at getting a heads when using Exhausted Tackle, but it is awfully risky to do 30 damage to Meowth and knock itself out in two turns.  So unless you like lots of risk, I would look elsewhere for a Basic Pokemon to use in any type deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Persian, this is a below average Basic Pokemon card, one that does have an average HP, low retreat cost, and potential to do above average damage every turn.  But because this card has the potential to do 30 damage to Meowth a turn, I cannot recommend using this card in a deck.

Noivern BREAK -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Noivern BREAK from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set.  The way a BREAK card works is that you place it on top of the Pokemon with the exact name, so this card would be placed on top of Noivern, so basically this card is a Stage 2 card.  It is placed horizontally on the card it evolves from and can use that Pokemon's Abilities and Attacks as well as what is on the BREAK card.  Noivern BREAK is a BREAK (essentially a Stage 2), dragon type Pokemon card, with an hp of 130.  It has the same weakness, resistance and retreat cost as the Noivern you're evolving it from.  Noivern BREAK does not have an Ability and it only has one move called Synchro Woofer that for three energy cards, one each of psychic, darkness, and colorless, does 70 damage plus 80 more damage if you have the same number of cards in your hand as your opponent.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Noivern BREAK is a stage 2 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Noibat into play and evolve it into Noivern before you can evolve Noivern into Noivern BREAK.  I will be reviewing the two Noibat cards from this set in the next week or two, but I have reviewed the Noivern card from this set and thought it was average overall, but would be above average in a darkness and psychic type deck since it could do 120 damage a turn for three energy cards.  So knowing this about Noivern and looking at this BREAK card, potentially, this card works very well with the Noivern with this set.  You could choose to use Noivern's Tuning move to get the same amount of cards in your hand as your opponent, then the next turn try and do 150 damage with Synchro Woofer since you should have close to the same amount of cards as your opponent from Tuning, then play the cards you need to match your opponent's hand count.  If you would rather just do 120 damage a turn for three energy cards, but have to discard an energy card each turn, just stick with Noivern and don't use Noivern BREAK.  I personally would use that strategy, since Noivern BREAK is just adding bloat to your deck, and it takes longer to get set up.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an average BREAK Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set.  I like how this card works well with Noivern from this set, but to me, this card isn't a must use in a psychic and darkness type deck, it won't hurt a deck, but there are better cards than this one out there to use.  So without knowing about the two Noibat cards from this set, I would give Noivern and Noivern BREAK a 3 out of 5 rating.
