Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Kirlia from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card set. Kirlia is a stage 1, psychic type Pokemon card, with an hp of 80. It has a x2 weakness to psychic type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Kirlia does not have an Ability but it does have two moves. The first move that this card has is called Beckon and for one psychic energy card it allows you to move a supporter card from your discard pile back into your hand. Kirlia's second move is called Quick Turn and for two colorless energy cards does 30 damage times the number of heads you get when you flip two coins.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Kirlia is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Ralts into play (I reviewed Ralts from this set yesterday) and then evolve Ralts into Kirlia. Kirlia does have two Stage 2 evolution forms in Gardevoir and Gallade, there is not a Gardevoir in this set but there is a Gallade card, which is a fighting type card and a card that I will be reviewing in the next couple of weeks. Also, there are two Ralts cards from this set, the other is a fairy type card, I have reviewed the psychic type so far and thought that card was an average Basic Pokemon card, it could do a fair amount of damage for two energy cards and it could heal a great amount of damage for only one energy card. So knowing this about the Ralts from this set and looking at Kirlia, I wouldn't use the two together without using either Gallade or Gardevoir. So I would stick to either just Ralts as a starter type Pokemon giving you time to set up your bench Pokemon, or not using this line at all. I say this because I am not that impressed by either move that Kirlia has, add in a low HP, and there is plenty of reason not to want to use this card in a deck.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating. In my opinion this is a below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set. I do like that this card has two moves, one that does damage and one that retrieves cards from the discard pile, however, this card has too low of an HP, its only move that can do damage is based off of a coin flip, and Kirlia's first move can be replaced by a trainer card. So overall, I cannot recommend using this card in a deck and combined with the psychic type Ralts in this deck, would give a 2 out of 5 rating.
