Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Mismagius from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set. Mismagius is a stage 1, psychic type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90. It has a x2 weakness to darkness type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Mismagius's Ability is called Twisted Incantation and says that when you play Mismagius from your hand to evolve one of your Pokemon you may have your opponent shuffle their hand into their deck and draw one card for each prize card they have left. Besides the Ability, Mismagius has one move called Curse Deeply that does 60 damage for three energy cards, two colorless and one psychic, plus it confuses the defending Pokemon.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Mismagius is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Misdreavus into play (I reviewed Misdreavus from this set yesterday) and then evolve Misdreavus into Mismagius. If you read yesterday's review of Misdreavus, you'll know that I thought that card was an average Basic Pokemon card, it had 60 HP, a low retreat cost, and could do 20 damage for one energy card, so not only could it be used as a starter type Pokemon, but it also could be used on its own. So knowing this about Misdreavus and looking at this Mismagius card, there are basically two ways to play this card, you can either move Misdreavus to the active Pokemon spot to start the game and then evolve it into Mismagius after you get three energy cards on it, or you can leave this line on the bench, waiting until the end of the game when your opponent has few prize cards left, thus utilizing Mismagius's Ability and limited what they can do by forcing them to have fewer cards in their hand. I personally would only use a 1-1 line of this Pokemon line, and use Misdreavus as a starter type Pokemon then get three energy cards on it, evolve it into Mismagius, and use Curse Deeply every turn.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating. In my opinion this is a very solid Stage 1 Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set. There really isn't anything to complain about on this card, it has an average HP, low retreat cost, a good Ability, even though it can be used once, and a powerful move that does average damage but confuses the defending Pokemon. Both Pokemon in this family from the BREAKthrough set received 3 out of 5 rating individually and they will receive the same rating combined, this line is definitely one to consider when building a psychic type deck.
