Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Haunter from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card set. Haunter is a stage 1, psychic type Pokemon card, with an hp of 70. It has a x2 weakness to darkness type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Haunter does have an Ability which is called Gothic Fear, and says that when you play Haunter from your hand to evolve one of your Pokemon, you may leave both active Pokemon confused. Besides the Ability, Haunter just has one move called Poison Ring that for two energy cards, one each of psychic and colorless, and poisons the defending Pokemon.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Haunter is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Gastly into play (I reviewed Gastly from this set yesterday) and then evolve Gastly into Haunter. Haunter does have a Stage 2 evolution in Gengar, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Haunter is the final evolution in this line. So if you read my review of Gastly, you'll know that I thought that card was a below average Basic Pokemon card, it did have a solid HP and a low retreat cost, but the only move it did have required a coin flip and was not guaranteed to any damage at all. So knowing this about Gastly and looking at this Haunter card, ideally you would want to utilize Haunter's Ability and confuse both Pokemon, however unless you have ways to remove confusion from your own active Pokemon spot I wouldn't recommend utilizing this Ability. Other than that, this card has only one move that isn't that great only poisoning the defending Pokemon, so if you have to play Haunter, I would probably use Poison Ring one turn and then try to retreat it for a Pokemon that can do damage every turn.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating. In my opinion this is a below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set. There really isn't anything that stands out to me on this card, it has a low HP and a pretty weak move. So unless you plan on using this entire Pokemon line, I would not recommend using Gastly and Haunter without Gengar and would give the first two Pokemon in this line a combined 2 out of 5 rating, both are poor individually and together.

False. The first English expansion to include Haunter did not feature Haunter as both a Rare non-Holo and a Rare Holo. The expansion that did the aforementioned thing was Fossil. Rather, it (Base Set) featured Haunter as an Uncommon.
