Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Banette from the Roaring Skies Pokemon Card Set. This is the first of two Banette cards I'll be reviewing consecutively. Banette is a stage 1, psychic type Pokemon card, with an hp of 80. It has a x2 weakness to darkness type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Banette's Ability is called Tool Concealment and says that each Pokemon Tool card in play has not effect. Besides the Ability, Banette just has one move called Psyshot, this move requires three energy cards to use, two colorless and one psychic, and does 60 damage.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Banette is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Shuppet into play (I reviewed Shuppet from this set yesterday) and then evolve Shuppet into Banette, there are actually two Banette cards from this set, and I'll be reviewing the second one tomorrow and then comparing the two. If you read yesterday's review of Shuppet, you'll know that I thought that card was a very poor Basic Pokemon card, mainly because it couldn't do anything when attacking. It only had one move, and all it could do was discard a Special Energy card attached to one of your opponent's Pokemon, not only is this move not very good, but if your opponent doesn't have a Special Energy card in use, the move does absolutely nothing. So knowing this about Shuppet and looking at this Banette card, this card isn't bad on its own, but knowing that you have to first use Shuppet, I would avoid using this Pokemon family in a deck. If you do decide to use this line, definitely don't use more than a 1-1 line and use it mainly for Banette's Ability, so you may be able to just keep Banette on the bench the whole game, all to prevent your opponent from using Tool cards. Banette's only move does average damage for the amount of energy required so it makes it a wash if the card should be used or not. So again, the only time I would even consider using this line would be if I wanted the opponent to not use Tool cards.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating. In my opinion this is a slightly below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Roaring Skies set. I like Banette's only move and its Ability could come in handy, but since this card has a low HP coupled with one slower move, this card is not worthy to use in a deck. Combined with Shuppet from this set, I would give the two Pokemon a combined rating of 1 out of 5, look elsewhere for Pokemon to use in your psychic type deck.
