Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Articuno from the Roaring Skies Pokemon Card Set. This is the second of two Articuno cards that I've reviewed from this set. Articuno is a basic, water type Pokemon card with an hp of 120, it has a x2 weakness to metal type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost. Articuno has an Ancient Trait called Plus that says if Articuno knocks out one of your opponent's Pokemon, you can take an additional prize card, so if you knock out an EX card you can take 3 prize cards. Besides the Ancient Trait, Articuno has two moves. The first move that this card has is called Chilling Sigh, this move requires one water energy card to use and puts the defending Pokemon to sleep. Articuno's second move is called Tri Edge, this move requires three energy cards to use, two water and one colorless, and does 20 damage plus 40 more damage for each heads you get when you flip 3 coins, for a total possibility of 140 damage.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Articuno is a basic Pokemon with no evolutions, you only have to use this Pokemon in your deck if you want to use this card. With that being said, since there are two different Articuno cards in this set, and I reviewed the first one yesterday, I will be comparing the two at the end of this section. Looking at this specific Articuno card, the first thing that I am a fan of is its Ancient Trait, so if you could somehow get the defending Pokemon to have a little HP left on it, then switch Articuno into the active Pokemon spot and knock it out with Tri Edge, it would let you win the game that much faster. I would definitely attach a Trick Coin trainer card to this card to give you two shots at being able to do major damage with Tri Edge. I would include at least one of these in almost any water type deck I would build just for its Ancient Trait, you could set it up on the bench, get three energy cards on it, then move it to the active Pokemon spot and use Tri Edge every single turn. Both Articuno cards from this set are pretty solid, the card from yesterday can do more damage consistently every turn, however this card has the potential to do more damage and to take 2 prize cards instead of 1. So if you're building a water type deck and am a fan of Articuno like I am, you may want to use 1 of each.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating. In my opinion, this is an above average Basic Pokemon card from the Roaring Skies set. There really isn't anything that I dislike about this card, the only reason it gets a 4 out of 5 from me instead of a 5 out of 5, is because it does take three energy cards to be able to do damage to the defending Pokemon, but this card can do major damage, and also has a high HP. So you can't go wrong with either Articuno card from this set.
