Whirlipede -- Burning Shadows Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Whirlipede from the Burning Shadows Pokemon Card set.  Whirlipede is a Stage 1, Psychic type Pokemon card, with a HP of 90.  It has a x2 weakness to Psychic type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three Colorless Energy card retreat cost.  This card does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move on this card is called Spin Turn, for two Energy cards, one each of Psychic and Colorless, this move does 30 damage, plus, you have to switch this Pokemon with one of your Benched Pokemon.  Whirlipede's second move is called Rollout, for three Energy cards, two Psychic and one Colorless, this move does 60 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Whirlipede is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Venipede into play (I reviewed Venipede from this set yesterday) and then evolve Venipede into Whirlipede.  Venipede does have a Stage 2 evolution in Scolipede, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Whirlipede is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read my review of Venipede, you'll know that I thought it was an average to slightly below average Basic Pokemon card overall.  The card had an above average HP and two moves, with the possibility of doing up to 60 damage per turn if the defending Pokemon is Poisoned, for only one Energy card.  So knowing this and looking at this Whirlipede card, there is really no reason to use Whirlipede without Scolipede, so you may play Venipede on its own, if not, use the entire line, don't stop at Whirlipede.  Although this card has a solid HP and two moves, it has a really high retreat cost, and neither move on this card is very good.  I guess the only good thing is that if you do have Whirlipede on your Bench and it is moved to the Active Pokemon spot by Guzma, you can move it out of the Active Pokemon spot when attacking for two Energy cards.

Pokemon Card Rating:  
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Burning Shadows set.  Like I mentioned above, do not use this card in a deck unless you're using Scolipede.  While Venipede is solid from this set, I am not a fan of this card, combined, I would give the two Pokemon a 2 out of 5 rating, look elsewhere for Basic and Stage 1 Psychic type Pokemon.

Whirlipede -- Pokemon X and Y Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Whirlipede from the X and Y Pokemon card set.  Whirlipede is a stage 1, psychic type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90.  It has a x2 weakness to psychic type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Whirlipede does not have an Ability and it only has one move.  The only move that this card has is called Continuous Tumble, this move requires two energy cards, one each of colorless and psychic, and does 30 damage times the number of heads you get when you flip a coin until you get tails.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Whirlipede is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Venipede into play (I reviewed Venipede from this set yesterday) and then evolve Venipede into Whirlipede.  Whirlipede does have a stage 2 evolution in Scolipede that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Whirlipede is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read yesterday's review of Venipede, you'll know that I thought the card was pretty average and it could be used on its own since it has one really good move and a high hp but you just need to watch out for its huge retreat cost.  Because Venipede and Whirlipede both have high retreat costs and the only move Whirlipede has may end up never doing any damage, I would highly recommend not using Whirlipede if not using Scolipede.  So either just use 1 or less Venipede in your deck or have this whole Pokemon family.  The only thing you can really do with this Whirlipede card if you have it in your deck is to hope for some luck and use Continuous Tumble every turn.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 1 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is easily one of the worst stage 1 Pokemon cards from the X and Y set.  Even though this card  has 90 damage, it is still a terrible card because the retreat cost is higher than the amount of energy cards required to use its only move and the only move it does have may end up doing zero damage every single turn.  So I would stay away from this card at all costs and because of this I would give the Pokemon family so far of Venipede and Whirlipede a 1 out of 5 rating.  Both cards are not worth using together even though I gave Venipede a 3, this Whirlipede is that bad of a card.

Whirlipede -- Boundaries Crossed Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Whirlipede from the Boundaries Crossed Pokemon Card Set.  Whirlipede is a stage 1, psychic type Pokemon card, with an hp of 100.  It has a x2 weakness to psychic type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Whirlipede's Ability is the same as Venipede's.  The Ability is called Poison Point and it says that if Whirlipede is your active Pokemon, any Pokemon that attacks Whirlipede is poisoned.  Besides the Ability, Whirlipede has only one move called Spinning Attack, this move requires three energy cards, two colorless and one psychic, and does 50 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Whirlipede has a stage 2 evolution in Scolipede,I would not use this card unless you use Scolipede.  If you are using Scolipede, and have to put Whirlipede into the active Pokemon spot your only choice is to attach three energy cards to Whirlipede and use Spinning Attack every turn until you can evolve Whirlipede into Scolipede.  So if you are not using Scolipede in your deck, I would just stick with Venipede, it has the same Ability, which is very good, and requires only two energy cards to attack instead of three, and by not using Whirlipede in your deck, you'll have room for another psychic Pokemon or two in your deck.  So again, if you are not using Scolipede in your deck, just use 1 or 2 Venipede's and do not use Whirlipede.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a below average stage 1 Pokemon card.  I do like its Ability, but it has the same one as Venipede, and it does have an above average hp, but so does Venipede.  I don't like this Pokemon's only move, and the fact it has a high retreat cost, and that only move is slow to use.  So I would not use this card in a deck unless I'm using Scolipede as well.

Whirlipede -- Emerging Powers Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Whirlipede from the Emerging Powers Pokemon Card Set.  This is a stage 1, psychic type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90.  It has a x2 weakness to psychic type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Whirlipede doesn't have an Ability but it does have two moves, the first move is called Venoshock and for one psychic energy card it does 10 damage plus 60 more damage if the defending Pokemon is poisoned.  Whirlipede's second move is called Steamroller and for three colorless energy cards it does 40 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since this is a stage 1 Pokemon card with a stage 2 evolution in Scolipede, I would highly recommend keeping Whirlipede on your bench, evolving it into Scolipede and then moving Scolipede into the active Pokemon spot.  I would do this because Scolipede can do more damage when attacking, and it has a higher hp.  If you were forced to put Whirlipede into the active Pokemon spot, I would make sure the defending Pokemon is poisoned, so I would include this card in a deck with Pokemon that can poison the defending Pokemon.  The reason I would make sure that the defending Pokemon is poisoned is because without this, Whirlipede can only do 40 damage and needs three energy cards, but if the defending Pokemon is poisoned, you only need to attach one energy card to Whirlipede and you can do 70 damage.  If I were to use this Pokemon in a deck, I would make sure to include Scolipede and use either a 4-3-2 or 3-2-1 line of Venipede, Whirlipede, and Scolipede.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  Besides having an average hp, and one good move (if the defending Pokemon is poisoned) this card isn't good at all.  It has a high retreat cost, and cannot do more than 40 damage, but still needs three energy cards to attack.  So again, with this card I would only use it as a means to play Scolipede.
