Staryu -- Evolutions Pokemon Card Review

Staryu Evolutions Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Staryu from the XY Evolutions Pokemon Card Set.  Staryu is a basic, water type Pokemon card with a HP of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Staryu does not have an Ability and it only has one move.  The only move that this card has is called Quick Blow, for one water energy card this move does 10 damage, if you get a heads when flipping a coin, this move does an additional 10 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Staryu is a basic Pokemon card with a Stage 1 evolution in Starmie, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution.  So, on its own, this card could be used as a starter type Pokemon since it can attack for one energy card, add a Trick Coin trainer card to this card and you have a good chance at doing 20 damage a turn for only one energy card.  So while this card works as a starter type Pokemon, only doing up to 20 damage a turn late in games won't cut it, so if you are going to use this card in a deck, I would recommend only using 1 to try and get it in the active Pokemon spot to start the game or using it to get to Starmie.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Starmie, this is an average Basic Pokemon card overall.  In my opinion, there really aren't any negatives on this card, other than it is limited in that it only has one move.  Other than that, this card has a solid HP, low retreat cost, and an average move that can do above average damage with a lucky coin flip.

Staryu -- BREAKpoint Pokemon Card Review

Staryu BREAKpoint Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Staryu from the BREAKpoint Pokemon Card Set.  Staryu is a basic, water type Pokemon card with an hp of 40.  It has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a free retreat cost. Staryu does not have an Ability and it only has one move, which is called Smack, that does 20 damage for one water energy card.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Staryu is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Starmie, which is most recently in the BREAKthrough set, but not in the BREAKpoint set.  More than likely you'll want to use this card with that Starmie card, you can find that review on my blog.  So just looking at this Staryu card on its own, I would really like to use it in a deck since it can do above average damage for only one energy card and has a free retreat cost, but the kicker on this card is its low HP, that makes this card unusable in my opinion, especially later in games when you can pretty much guarantee that this card will get knocked out in one move.  So if you're building a water type deck, I would consider using one of these cards in a deck, using Smack to start the game then retreating Staryu and keeping it on the bench the rest of the game, but like I said, because Staryu has such a low HP, I would probably not use this card in a deck without Starmie.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Starmie, this is a slightly below average Basic Pokemon card from the BREAKpoint set.  Really, the only below average thing on this card is its HP, other than that this card is very good, having a solid, above average move, and a free retreat cost.  So really, when deciding to use this card, it all depends on how heavily you want to use a Pokemon with such a low HP in your deck.

Staryu -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Staryu BREAKthrough Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Staryu from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set.  Staryu is a basic, water type Pokemon card with an hp of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Staryu does not have an Ancient Trait or Ability and it only has one move.  The only move that this card has is called Continuous Spin, this move requires one colorless energy card to use and does 10 damage times the number of heads you get when you flip a coin until you get a tails.

So, on its own, I probably wouldn't use this card on its own, mainly because the only move that this card has is based on a coin flip meaning the move could do zero damage every single time.  If you know you're going to use Starmie with this card, Staryu wouldn't be that bad since you may have to use this card for just one turn in active Pokemon spot or not use it at all.  All I can say, is if you want to use this card in your deck, attack a Trick Coin trainer to it so you have better odds of doing damage with Continuous Spin.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Starmie, this is a below average Basic Pokemon card.  This card is fairly solid overall, having an average HP, low retreat cost, and a move that only takes one energy card to use.  But the main knock on this card is that it is coin flip based meaning it may not do damage at all, so use this card with caution.

Staryu -- Primal Clash Pokemon Card Review

Staryu Primal Clash Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Staryu from the Primal Clash Pokemon Card Set.  Staryu is a basic, water type Pokemon card with an hp of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Staryu does not have an Ability and it only has one move called Lunge, this move requires one colorless energy card and does 20 damage, however if you flip a coin and get tails, the move does nothing.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Staryu is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Starmie, which I'll be reviewing in a few weeks since it is a psychic type Pokemon, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution.  So, on its own, I would not recommend using this card in a deck, even though this card has everything at least average on it, with an above average move, with the only caveat being you have to flip a coin to see if you can attack or not, which makes this card unusable.  So unless you really like Staryu, are feeling lucky, or want to use a Trick Coin tool card with Staryu, do not use this card in a deck, because you don't want to put this card into the active Pokemon spot and not be able to do any damage to the defending Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 1 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Starmie, this card is a well below average Basic Pokemon card mainly for the reason it doesn't have a move that can for sure do damage.  So like I said in the strategy section of this post, unless you're feeling pretty lucky or just want to have Staryu in your deck, do not use this card, and find other water type Pokemon to use.

Staryu -- Pokemon X and Y Review

Staryu Pokemon X and Y Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Staryu from the X and Y Pokemon Card Set.  Staryu is a basic, water type Pokemon card with an hp of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Staryu does not have an Ability and it only has one move called Reckless Charge, this move requires two energy cards, one each of water and colorless, and does 30 damage but it unfortunately does 10 damage to Staryu.

So, on its own I wouldn't recommend using this card in a deck because even though its only move does above average damage, it does damage to itself which makes this move more towards average to a below average move.  So unless you really need one more card in your deck, I would not recommend using this card.  If you do use it in your deck, your strategy will only be to use Reckless Charge every turn when you can.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a slightly below average basic Pokemon card from the X and Y set.  Other than doing damage to itself when using Reckless Charge this card is average overall, average hp, low retreat cost, and it does do 30 damage a turn.  But like I stated earlier, this card is not that great so I wouldn't use it in a deck without Starmie.
