Prinplup -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Prinplup BREAKthrough Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Prinplup from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card set.  Prinplup is a stage 1, water type Pokemon card, with an hp of 80.  It has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Prinplup does not have an Ability and it only has one move.  The only move that this card has is called Ice Beam, for two energy cards, one each of water and colorless, this move does 30 damage, plus it paralyzes the defending Pokemon if you get a heads when flipping a coin.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Prinplup is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Piplup into play (I reviewed Piplup from this set yesterday) and then evolve Piplup into Prinplup.  Prinplup does have a Stage 2 evolution in Empoleon, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Prinplup is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read my review of Piplup, you'll know that I thought that card was an average Basic Pokemon card, it had a solid HP, low retreat cost, and even though it only had one move and this move required two energy cards to use, the move did above average damage and I thought the card could hold its own if used by itself.  So knowing this about Piplup and looking at this Prinplup card, this card can do pretty much the same amount of damage as Piplup for the same amount of energy, but this card just has a higher HP and can paralyze the defending Pokemon too.  So if you are for sure using Piplup in your deck, it may make sense to use one of these Prinplup cards just to strengthen this Pokemon line and be able to use it later in the game.  Just looking at Prinplup on its own, I am not a huge fan of this card because it has a below average HP, and only one move that does the same amount of damage as a Basic Pokemon card.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a slightly below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set.  Outside of having a low HP and only one move, this card is good in that it has a low retreat cost and can do an average amount of damage for the move it has.  So pairing this card with the Piplup card from this set, I would give both cards a combined rating of 3 out of 5.

Prinplup -- Legendary Treasures Pokemon Card Review

Prinplup Legendary Treasures Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Prinplup from the Legendary Treasures Pokemon Card Set.  Prinplup is a stage 1, water type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90.  It has a x2 weakness to lightning  type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Prinplup does not have an Ability and it only has one move called Water Splash that requires two energy cards to use, one each of water and colorless, and does 20 damage, plus if you get a heads when you flip a coin it does 30 more damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Prinplup is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Piplup into play (I reviewed Piplup from this set yesterday) and then evolve Piplup into Prinplup.  Prinplup does have a stage 2 evolution in Empoleon that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Prinplup is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read yesterday's review of Piplup you will know that I thought it was a below average basic Pokemon card that although has the potential to do 30 damage per turn, will more than likely disappoint you by only doing 10 damage per turn per two energy cards, so I recommended against using it in a deck on its own.  After summarizing this Prinplup card in the post, I feel like it is the same as Piplup, it is just below average but has the potential to do a good amount of damage.  So if you choose to use Prinplup in your deck, I would only use a 1-1 line of Piplup and Prinplup and then use whichever Pokemon you can in the active Pokemon spot early in the game, both require two energy cards to attack and both cards only have one move, you'll just have to hope for some luck when using this card to do 50 damage per turn.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a below average stage 1 Pokemon card.  Even though this card has an average hp and retreat cost, and only requires two energy cards to attack, I am giving it a below average rating because the move is sub-par unless you get a heads when flipping a coin.  So if you put both Piplup and Prinplup from this set together I would give them a 2 out of 5 rating, they both received 2 ratings individually as well.  I would not recommend using this line so far in a deck.

Prinplup -- Dark Explorers Pokemon Card Review

Prinplup Dark Explorers Pokemon Card Pokemon Card Overview:
Before I get started with today's card review, I would like to point out the bottom section of this review, from now on I will include that Free Online Pokemon TCG Code Card section, each day, at a random time I will post 2 codes in that section, it is a first come first serve basis, but for the courtesy of others please comment if you've used the code...so today's Pokemon Card Review is of Prinplup from the Dark Explorers Pokemon Card Set.  This is a stage 1, water type Pokemon card, with an hp of 80, it has a x2 weakness to electric type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Prinplup doesn't have an Ability but it does have two moves, the first move is called Razor Wing and does 20 damage for one colorless energy card.  Prinplup's second move is called Fury Attack and for three energy cards, two colorless and one water, it does 30 damage times the number of heads you get when you flip three coins.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since this is a stage 1 Pokemon card that has a stage 2 evolution, you'll want to evolve Prinplup as soon as possible into Empoleon, since Empoleon has a higher hp, and can do more damage, consistently.  So I would recommend keeping Prinplup on the bench until you evolve it into Empoleon, but if you have to put Prinplup into the active Pokemon card spot, I would use Fury Attack every turn, if you have the necessary energy cards, but if you don't or you can for sure knock out the defending Pokemon with 20 damage make sure to use Razor Wing.  One thing that is good about this card is that it requires mainly colorless energy cards so you can easily mix this card into a multiple type deck.  Since Prinplup is part of the Empoleon evolution line, if I were to use this card I would only use it if I was going to use Empoleon, and I would use either a 4-3-2, or 3-2-1 line of Piplup, Prinplup, and Empoleon.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  This card has some pros and cons about it which overall amount to an average card.  Prinplup's hp is pretty low which may end up meaning it gets knocked out before you can evolve it to Empoleon, also Fury Attack may do 90 damage or may do 0 damage you don't know so even though it is a good move it is risky.  So there is just too much risk with this card to give it anything more than an above average rating.

Tomorrow's Pokemon Card:
So thanks for reading today's Pokemon card review of Prinplup from the Dark Explorers set, stay tuned for tomorrow's card review of Palpitoad from the same set.
