Marowak -- Fates Collide Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Marowak from the Fates Collide Pokemon Card Set.  Marowak is a stage 1, fighting type Pokemon card, with an hp of 100. It has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Marowak's Ability is called Bodyguard and says that it prevents all effects of attacks, excluding damage, done to you or your hand from your opponent's Pokemon, plus it removes all existing effects.  Besides the Ability, Marowak just has one move called Bonemerang, for two energy cards, one each of fighting and colorless, this move does 60 damage times the number of heads you get when flipping a coin.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Marowak is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Cubone into play, there is not a Cubone in this set but there is one in the BREAKthrough set, then evolve Cubone into Marowak.  If you're building a deck and think you're going to face lots of decks that have their main strategy being inflicting special conditions, this card is a staple to include in your deck, at least a 1-1 line of this Pokemon family.  This card is also necessary if you use a move that puts your active Pokemon to sleep, as you could use Bodyguard to wake it up each turn.  So I do think that Bodyguard is a very powerful Ability and is the main reason that this card should be used.  Bonemerang is a solid move, if you have some luck, so if you want to put this card into the active Pokemon spot, try and attach a Trick Coin trainer to this card.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an average to well above average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Fates Collide set.  All depending on the deck you're facing, like I said above, Bodyguard is the reason you would want to use this card, and it can greatly affect how good your deck is.  So, if you're building a deck, consider using a 1-1 line of this family to counter your opponent's strategy of inflicting special conditions.

Marowak -- BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Marowak from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card Set.  Marowak is a stage 1, fighting type Pokemon card, with an hp of 100. It has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Marowak does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Sharpshooting, for one fighting energy card this move does 30 damage to one of your opponent's Pokemon.  Marowak's second move is called Bone Windmill and for two energy cards, one each of fighting and colorless, does 60 damage, plus if the defending Pokemon is an EX Pokemon, you have to switch Marowak for one of your benched Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Marowak is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Cubone into play (I reviewed Cubone from this set yesterday) and then evolve Cubone into Marowak.  If you read yesterday's review of Cubone, you'll know that I thought that card was a below average Basic Pokemon card.  Just looking at the card it is good overall having a high HP, low retreat cost, and one move that does 50 damage, but because the card only has one move and that move is based off of a coin flip, I had to give the card a below average rating.  So knowing this about Cubone and looking at this Marowak card, this card would work well early in games, you could put Cubone in the active Pokemon spot to start the game, not attack the first turn but attach an energy card to it, then evolve Cubone the second turn and be able to do 60 damage right away with Marowak.  Or you could use this card in a spread attack deck and use Sharpshooting later in the game to knock off a benched Pokemon of your opponent's each turn.  Overall, I would recommend using a 1-1 line of Cubone and Marowak in a fighting type or spread attack type deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a very solid Stage 1 Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set.  I like this card quite well, it has an above average HP, and two good moves, both very quick and doing a fair amount of damage.  Paired with Cubone from this set, I would give the two cards a 3 out of 5 rating and would recommend taking a strong look at these cards when creating a deck.

Marowak -- Dragons Exalted Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Marowak from the Dragons Exalted Pokemon Card Set.  Marowak is a stage 1, fighting type Pokemon card, with an hp of 100.  It has a x2 weakness to water type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to electric type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Marowak does not have an Ability but it does have two moves, its first move is called Bone Lock and for one fighting energy card, this move does 30 damage plus makes your opponent's active Pokemon unable to retreat during their next turn.  Marowak's second move is called Vortex Chop and for three energy cards, two colorless and one fighting, this move does 60 damage plus 30 more damage if the defending Pokemon has any resistance.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Marowak is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Cubone into play (I reviewed Cubone from this set yesterday) and then evolve Cubone into Marowak.  If you read yesterday's review, I think Cubone is an excellent starter Pokemon so it should probably be in your active Pokemon spot when you evolve Cubone into Marowak, once you have Marowak in the active Pokemon spot, I would add one more energy card to Marowak so you have three, then use 60 damage every turn, I would make sure to have Marowak in the active Pokemon spot if the defending Pokemon had any type of resistance on it, that way Vortex Chop could do 90 damage every turn.  The only time I would use Bone Lock is if I didn't have enough energy cards on Marowak to use Vortex Chop, or you need to make sure the defending Pokemon can't retreat the next turn so you can knock it out and win the game.  I would recommend using a 2-1 line of Cubone and Marowak in a fighting type deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an above average stage 1 Pokemon card.  This means that both the Pokemon in this line from Dragons Exalted are both above average and I would definitely recommend using this line in your deck.  What I specifically like about this card is that it has a good hp, low retreat cost, and two great moves, Bone Lock is quick and can pack a wallop, Vortex Chop takes some time but with some patience and your opponent having a resistance, this card is a well above average move.
