Rayquaza ex -- EX Dragon Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Rayquaza ex from the EX Dragon set. This is a basic, colorless type Pokemon card, with an hp of 100. It has a x2 weakness to colorless type Pokemon, a -30 resistance to water and fighting type Pokemon, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost. Rayquaza doesn't have a Poke-Body or Poke-Power but it does have two moves, the first move is called Spiral Growth and for one colorless energy card you may flip a coin until you get tails, for each heads you get you may search your discard pile for an energy card and attach it to Rayquaza. Rayquaza's second move is called Dragon Burst which takes two energy cards, one each of fire and electric and does 40 damage times the number of energy cards you discard when you discard all of either your electric or fire type energy cards.

PrimetimePokemon's Take:
Even back in the day when these cards were playable I don't think I would have used this card in battle. It takes too many energy cards to do any damage and can't attack that often. Plus you'll need to put this card in a fire and electric type deck which isn't a very popular deck type. With that being said the artwork on this card isn't bad, I like the background and how Rayquaza is flying through the picture. The artwork was done by Hikaru Koike. I do have this ex card in my collection.

This card sells on eBay for around $10, on Professor-Oak it sells for $11.95 and on PokeOrder it goes for $37.49.

Muk ex -- EX Dragon Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Muk ex from the EX Dragon set. This is a stage 1, grass type Pokemon card, with an hp of 100. It has a x2 weakness to psychic type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost. Muk's Poke-Body is called Toxic Gas and says that as long as Muk is your active Pokemon you may ignore all other Poke-Bodies and Poke-Powers. Besides the Poke-Body, Muk ex has two moves, the first move is called Poison Breath which takes one grass energy card and does 10 damage to the defending Pokemon and poisons that Pokemon. Muk's second move is called Slimy Water which takes three energy cards, two grass and one colorless, and does 40 damage plus 10 more damage for each colorless energy in the defending Pokemon's retreat cost.

PrimetimePokemon's Take:
If I could play this card today, this would be the perfect card to combat extremely powerful Pokemon that usually have extremely high retreat costs. Let's say a Pokemon has a four colorless energy card retreat cost then I could use Slimy Water and do 80 damage every turn. The only down thing about this card is that it doesn't have too high of hp so I would make sure and retreat Muk if it's close to feinting. The artwork on this card is done by Hikaru Koike and I don't really like it, it is too abstract for my style. I have this ex card in my collection.

This card sells on eBay for around $3, on Professor-Oak it sells for $9 and on PokeOrder it goes for $22.49. So this is another ex card from this set that doesn't sell for much.

Magcargo ex -- EX Dragon Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Magcargo ex from the EX Dragon set. This is a stage 1, fire type Pokemon card with an hp of 100. It has a x2 weakness to water type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost. Magcargo doesn't have a Poke-Power or Poke-Body but it does have two moves, the first move is called Melting Mountain which does 20 damage for one fire energy card, however when performing this move you must discard a card from your deck if that card is an energy card you can attach it to Magcargo. Magcargo's second move is called Lava Flow which takes three energy cards, two fire and one colorless, and does 40 damage plus 20 more damage for each energy card you choose to discard when you perform this move.

PrimetimePokemon's Take:
The artwork on this card makes Magcargo seem extremely tough and unstoppable, it looks like Magcargo is inside of a Volcano, thus you would think fire moves wouldn't have any effect on it. The artwork was done by Hikaru Koike, I like the background on this card but not the actual drawing of Magcargo. If I were to use this card in battle I would use Magcargo ex once, by using Lava Flow and discarding all three energy cards attached to it and do 100 damage and then slowly build up to do Lava Flow again. I have this ex card in my collection.

This card sells on eBay for around $4, on Professor-Oak it sells for $16.54 and on PokeOrder it goes for $14.99. This ex card is one of the least expensive cards from this set.

Latios ex -- EX Dragon Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
To everyone that celebrates Christmas, Merry Christmas everyone! With that being said, today's Pokemon Card Review is of Latios ex from the EX Dragon set. This is a basic, colorless type Pokemon card, with an hp of 100. It has a x2 weakness to colorless Pokemon, a -30 resistance to both grass and fighting type Pokemon, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost. Latios doesn't have a Poke-Power or Poke-Body but it does have two moves, the first move is called Energy Stream which takes one colorless energy card and does 10 damage, plus you get to flip a coin when you use this move, and if you get a heads you may search your discard pile for an energy card and attach it to Latios ex. Latios' other move is called Luster Purge which takes three energy cards, one each of grass, eletric, and colorless and does 100 damage, however you must discard 3 energy cards attached to Latios after this move.

PrimetimePokemon's Take:
It is very fitting I'm reviewing this card on Christmas, many years ago when EX Dragon was the new set out, I opened EX Dragon packs for Christmas and pulled this exact card which I still have today. Just like Latias from yesterday, this is a one-hit wonder kind of card doing 100 damage one turn and then not being able to do the move again for a few turns. Just make sure to have this card in a deck with grass and electric type Pokemon. I like the artwork on Latios better than Latios. The artwork was done by Ryo Ueda.

Latias ex -- EX Dragon Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Latias ex from the EX Dragon set. This is a basic, colorless type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90. It has a x2 weakness to colorless type Pokemon, a -30 resistance to both psychic and fighting type Pokemon, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost. Latias doesn't have a Poke-Power or Poke-Body but it does have two moves, the first move is called Hypnoblast which does 10 damage for one colorless energy card. Also if you get a heads when you flip a coin the defending Pokemon is asleep. Latias' second move is called Mist Ball which requires three energy cards, one each of colorless, fire, and water and does 100 damage, but you must discard a fire and water energy card when you get done using Mist Ball.

PrimetimePokemon's Take:
It isn't often you see a Pokemon card that can do a damage that is more than its HP, but today's card does exactly that. I would save Latias for a one-hit wonder late in the game, put it in, use Mist Ball and then retreat it out the next turn. Just make sure to include this card in a fire and water type deck. This card was illustrated by Ryo Ueda, even though this card is red, white, and blue I don't really like the artwork on this card. I do have this card in my collection.

This card sells on eBay for around $10, on Professor-Oak it sells for $14.99 and on PokeOrder it goes for $29.99. So this is a fairly inexpensive ex card for a Legendary Pokemon.

Kingdra ex -- EX Dragon Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Kingdra ex from the EX Dragon set. This is a stage 2, water type Pokemon card, with an hp of 150. It has a x2 weakness to both grass and electric type Pokemon. Kingdra ex doesn't have a resistance type, and its retreat cost is three colorless energy cards. Kingdra ex doesn't have a Poke-Power or Poke-Body but it does have two moves, the first move is called Genetic Memory which takes one water energy card and does any move from the Kingdra's basic or stage 1 Pokemon card, so similar to Lv. X cards. Kingdra's second move is called Hydrocannon which takes three colorless energy cards and does 50 damage plus 20 more damage for each water energy card attached to this card but not used to pay for this attack.

PrimetimePokemon's Take:
If you're playing in an ultimate format, I would search through all the Horsea and Seadra cards out there to find the best ones to use with Genetic Memory. Otherwise I would put up to 5 energy cards on Kingdra so I could do 90 damage every turn. I like the artwork on this card which is done by Hikaru Koike. I like the background design, it almost looks 3d, plus Kingdra looks very dark and dangerous. I believe I have this card in my collection.

This card sells on eBay for around $6, on Professor-Oak it sells for $6 and on PokeOrder it goes for $37.49. This looks like a pretty cheap ex card, unless you want to fork over another 30 dollars and buy it from PokeOrder.

Golem ex -- EX Dragon Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Golem ex from the EX Dragon set. This is a stage 2, fighting type Pokemon card, with an hp of 160. It has a x2 weakness to both grass and water type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a 5 colorless energy card retreat cost. Golem doesn't have a Poke-Power or Poke-Body but it does have two moves, the first move is called Magnitude which takes three energy cards, two colorless and one fighting, and does 60 damage plus 10 damage to each benched Pokemon in play. Golem's second move is called Double-edge which takes 5 energy cards, two fighting and three colorless and does 120 damage but does 50 damage to itself.

PrimetimePokemon's Take:
Even though this card can do 120 damage I wouldn't try and use it very much in a deck I would make, just because it takes so long to attack and it takes forever to retreat. I would think about putting it on my bench and occasionally attaching energy cards to it and at the end of the game use Double-edge. Other than that, I don't really like this card, I personally don't like the artwork, which is done by Hikaru Koike. I do have this card in my collection.

This card sells on eBay for around $5, on Professor-Oak it sells for $12.02 and on PokeOrder it goes for $29.99. I would say this is an averaged priced ex card from this set, but one I definitely wouldn't buy.

Dragonite ex -- EX Dragon Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Dragonite ex from the EX Dragon set. This is a stage 2, colorless type Pokemon card, with an hp of 150. It has a x2 weakness to colorless type Pokemon, a -30 resistance to both grass and fighting type Pokemon, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost. Dragonite's Poke-Power is called Call for Power which says that often as you like during your turn you may move an energy card attached to one of your Pokemon to Dragonite ex. Besides the Poke-Power, Dragonite has two moves, the first move is called Dragon Wave which takes two energy cards, one water and one electric and does 70 damage, however after using this move you must discard one water and one electric energy card from Dragonite. Dragonite's second move is called Giant Tail and for four colorless energy cards it can do 120 damage, however if you get a tails when you flip a coin this move doesn't do anything.

PrimetimePokemon's Take:
As powerful as Dragonite usually is, I actually don't like this card much, move-wise that is, both moves have the potential to do a lot of damage but one is only a fifty-fifty shot and the other move will impede your momentum at least a turn. If for some reason I could use this card, I would try setting up most of my other Pokemon first and if I got desperate late, use Call for Power and quickly put energy cards on Dragonite and use Giant Tail. I do like the artwork on this card which was again done by Ryo Ueda, I especially like the background design and the fact Dragonite is shot from underneath it so it looks extremely big. I have this card in my collection.

This card sells on eBay for around $10, on Professor-Oak it sells for $28.23 and on PokeOrder it goes for $39.99. I'm guessing this card is one of the more expensive ex cards from this set.

Ampharos ex -- EX Dragon Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Ampharos ex from the EX Dragon set. This is a stage 2, electric type Pokemon card with an hp of 150. It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, a -30 resistance to metal type Pokemon, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost. Ampharos' Poke-Body is called Conductivity which says that as long as Ampharos ex is in play whenever your opponent attaches an energy card to one of their Pokemon from their hand to one of their Pokemon, put one damage counter on that Pokemon. Besides the Poke-Body Ampharos has one move called Gigavolt which takes three energy cards, one electric and two colorless and does 40 damage plus 30 more damage if you get a heads when you flip a coin, but if you get a tails the defending Pokemon is paralyzed instead of doing extra damage to it.

PrimetimePokemon's Take:
This would have been a great ex card to get into play as soon as possible before your opponent would be able to set up their other Pokemon, that way any time they attach an energy card to their Pokemon they do damage to their own Pokemon. This card would have worked perfectly in a spread damage type deck. Even if you would have played this card in the active Pokemon spot it isn't a bad card doing a fair amount of damage or doing a special condition and a little less damage. I really like the artwork done on this card which was done by Ryo Ueda, Ampharos is already one of my favorite Pokemon and this card makes it seem even cooler. I have this card in my collection.
