Whimsicott -- Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Whimsicott from the Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Set.  Whimsicott is a Stage 1, Fairy type Pokemon card, with a HP of 80. It has a x2 weakness to Metal type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to Darkness type Pokemon, and a free retreat cost.  Whimsicott does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move on this card is called The Wages of Fluff, for one Colorless Energy card, this move makes it so that if the defending Pokemon is knocked out during your next turn, you can take 2 Prize cards instead of 1.  Fairy Wind is this card's second move, for one Fairy Energy card this move does 30 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Whimsicott is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Cottonee into play (I reviewed Cottonee from this set yesterday) and then evolve Cottonee into Whimsicott.  If you read yesterday's review of Cottonee, you'll know that I thought it was a well below average Basic Pokemon overall.  Although it had a solid HP, a low retreat cost, and a quick attacking move, because it had just the one move, and this move was based off of coin flips, I did not recommend using it in a deck.  Because of this fact, if you want to use Whimsicott in a deck, either use a Cottonee from a different set, or evolve this entire line on the Bench.  You really only need to use a 1-1 line of this Pokemon family.  You would try and use this line for Whimsicott's The Wages of Fluff move, you'll need another powerful Pokemon set up on your Bench, then you could use Whimsicott's move one turn, retreat it for free the next turn, knock out the Defending Pokemon and take two Prize cards instead of one.  I do like that both moves on this card require only one Energy card, but would have liked to see a bit more on a Stage 1 card.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Guardians Rising set.  I do like that this card has two moves, one that does damage every time and another than can quickly win you the game, add in a free retreat cost, and this is certainly a card that should be considered when deck building.  However, because of its lower HP, and the fact Cottonee from this set isn't that good, I can't give these two cards higher than a 3 out of 5 rating.

Whimsicott -- Fates Collide Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Whimsicott from the Fates Collide Pokemon Card Set.  Whimsicott is a stage 1, fairy type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90. It has a x2 weakness to metal type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to darkness type Pokemon, and a free retreat cost.  Whimsicott does not have an Ability and it only has one move.  The only move that this card has is called Light Steps, for one fairy energy card this move does 40 damage and allows you to move an energy from Whimsicott to one of your benched Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Whimsicott is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Cottonee into play (I reviewed Cottonee from this set yesterday) and then evolve Cottonee into Whimsicott.  If you read yesterday's review of Cottonee, you'll know that I thought it was a below average Basic Pokemon card, mainly because it had a lower than average HP but also the fact that it was limited in what it can do since it only had one move that did 10 damage.  So knowing this about Cottonee and looking at this Whimsicott card, this card really follows the same pattern, it is very limited in what it can do having only one move.  Although this line could work in a fairy type deck, since you could use a 1-1 line and set it up on the bench, keep attaching energy cards to Whimsicott just to be able to get another energy card into play each turn, then move Whimsicott to the active Pokemon spot, use Light Steps, move an energy card off of Whimsicott to set up your benched Pokemon and retreat it for free a turn or two later.  Unless you're specifically building a fairy type deck, this card has no use in a deck, and even if you are, this card and line isn't that great overall.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a slightly below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Fates Collide set.  I like that this card has a solid HP, free retreat cost, and can attack quickly.  However, I don't like the fact that this card only has one move, and can't do that much damage every turn.  Overall with Whimsicott from this set, which I gave a 2 rating, I would give these cards combined a 2 out of 5 rating, they aren't terrible, but you can definitely find better cards to use out there.

Whimsicott -- Ancient Origins Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Whimsicott from the Ancient Origins Pokemon Card Set.  Whimsicott is a stage 1, fairy type Pokemon card, with an hp of 70.  It has a x2 weakness to metal type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to darkness type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  This Whimsicott card does not have an Ancient Trait or an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Windy Mischief, for one fairy type energy, this move allows you to move all damage counters from one of your benched Pokemon to your opponent's Active Pokemon.  Whimsicott's second move is called Rolling Tackle and does 30 damage for two colorless energy cards.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Whimsicott is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Cottonee into play (I reviewed Cottonee from this set yesterday) and then evolve Cottonee into Whimsicott.  If you read yesterday's review of Cottonee, you'll know that I thought that card was a below average Basic Pokemon card, it would have been a solid card to use in a deck if it had 60 HP instead of 40, because the one move it did have only required one energy card to use and put the defending Pokemon to sleep.  So knowing this about Cottonee and looking at this Whimsicott card, the main reason you'll want to consider having this card in a deck is for its Windy Mischief move, what you would do, is use an EX or something with a very high HP for quite awhile in your active Pokemon spot, retreat that EX, then move Whimsicott into the active Pokemon spot, making sure it won't get knocked out in one move, and use Windy Mischief, potentially one hit KOing the defending Pokemon.  Other than that strategy, there is no reason to use Whimsicott in a deck, since it is a Stage 1 evolution and has such a low HP.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a slightly above average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Ancient Origins set and one that can do a sneaky high amount of damage in a deck using its Windy Mischief move, as long as you give yourself time to get some major damage on one of your Pokemon.  Together with Cottonee from this set, I would give both cards a 3 out of 5 rating, both have low HP, so definitely warrant no more than a 1-1 line of use.
