Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Slowpoke from the Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Set. Slowpoke is a Basic, Psychic type Pokemon card with a HP of 70. It has a x2 weakness to Psychic type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three Colorless Energy card retreat cost. Slowpoke does not have an Ability but it does have two moves. The first move that this card has is called Headbutt, for one Colorless Energy card this move does 10 damage. Whimsy Tackle is the name of Slowpoke's second move, for three Energy cards, one Psychic and two Colorless, this move does 60 damage, however, you must flip a coin when using this move, if you get a tails, the move does nothing.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Slowpoke is a Basic Pokemon card with two Stage 1 evolution forms in Slowbro and Slowking, you'll more than likely want to use Slowpoke with one or both of these Pokemon. Slowking is in the Burning Shadows set but there is a Slowbro in Guardians Rising which I'll be reviewing tomorrow. Taking a look at this Slowking card on its own, it could be used as a starter type Pokemon since it has an above average HP and can attack and do damage for only one Colorless Energy card. However, with such a high retreat cost, and a second move that is pretty much worthless, there are much better Basic Pokemon to use out there in a Psychic type deck.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating. So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Slowbro or Slowking, this is a below average Basic Pokemon card. This card does have a good HP and can attack quickly, but Whimsy Tackle requires too many Energy cards to use and is based off of a coin flip, and with a high retreat cost, it doesn't make for a very good starter type Pokemon.
