Sharpedo -- Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Review

Sharpedo Guardians Rising Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Sharpedo from the Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Set.  Sharpedo is a Stage 1, Water type Pokemon card, with a HP of 90. It has a x2 weakness to Grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a free retreat cost.  Sharpedo does not have an Ability and it only has one move.  The only move on this card is called Jet Headbutt, for two Energy cards, one each of Water and Colorless, this move does 70 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Sharpedo is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Carvanha into play (I reviewed Carvanha from this set yesterday) and then evolve Carvanha into Sharpedo.  If you read yesterday's review of Carvanha, you'll know that I thought it was a below average Basic Pokemon card overall.  The card had a low HP and was very limited in what it could do, with only one move that could do 10 damage.  So knowing this about Carvanha and looking at this Sharpedo card, because Sharpedo has a free retreat cost, it is best to set this card up on the Bench, and potentially have multiple Pokemon with free retreat costs, that way you can move these cards in and out of the Active Pokemon spot without having to discard any Energy.  Once Sharpedo is set up, it is a very powerful attacker and does not require much Energy to attack.  So, if you're building a Water type deck and looking for some power, I would recommend using this line in your deck, at least a 1-1 line.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an above average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Guardians Rising set.  Although this card is very limited, in only having one move, because its one move is well above average and it has a free retreat cost, I am a fan of this card and think it should be used in decks.  Together with Carvanha from this set, I would give these two cards a 3 out of 5 rating.

Sharpedo -- Sun and Moon Pokemon Card Review

Sharpedo Sun and Moon Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Sharpedo from the Sun and Moon Pokemon Card Set.  Sharpedo is a Stage 1, Darkness type Pokemon card, with a HP of 110. It has a x2 weakness to Fighting type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to Psychic type Pokemon, and a free retreat cost.  Sharpedo's Ability is called Rough Skin and says that if Sharpedo is your Active Pokemon and is attacked by one of your opponent's Pokemon, put 3 damage counters on that attacking Pokemon.  Besides the Ability, Sharpedo has one move called Aqua Impact, for three Energy cards, one Darkness and two Colorless, this move does 60 damage plus 20 more damage for each Colorless Energy card in your opponent's Active Pokemon's retreat cost.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Sharpedo is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Carvanha into play (I reviewed Carvanha from this set yesterday) and then evolve Carvanha into Sharpedo.  If you read yesterday's review of Carvanha, you'll know that I thought it was a slightly below average Basic Pokemon card overall, it had a solid HP, a low retreat cost, and two moves.  It was very effective in discarding Pokemon Tool cards, but it was a little slow on the attack when trying to do damage.  So knowing this about Carvanha from this set and looking at this Sharpedo card, the key with this entire line is to utilize Aqua Impact's additional damage, so you can set this card up on the Bench and when the defending Pokemon has 3 or more Energy cards for its retreat cost, I would move Sharpedo into the Active Pokemon spot and do 120 or more damage a turn.  Another strategy with this line would be to get Sharpedo into play as soon as possible, and use its Ability to do 30 damage a turn to an attacking Pokemon while you either set up your Benched Pokemon or set up Sharpedo to use Aqua Impact.  This card can certainly take a fair amount of damage, with its Ability and the fact it has a free retreat cost.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an above average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Sun and Moon set.  Other than not having a move that is real quick to use, this card has a great HP, a great Ability, and a potentially great move, so it is definitely worth a look when building a Darkness type deck.  Together with Carvanha from this set, which I gave a 2 out of 5 rating, I would give these two cards a 3 out of 5 rating.

Sharpedo -- Plasma Storm Pokemon Card Review

Sharpedo Plasma Storm Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Sharpedo from the Plasma Storm Pokemon Card Set.  Sharpedo is a stage 1, water type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90.  It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a free retreat cost.  Sharpedo's Ability is called Rough Skin and says that if Sharpedo is your active Pokemon and is attacked the attacking Pokemon has two put 20 damage on them.  Besides the Ability, Sharpedo just has one move called Hard Bite, this move requires two energy cards, one each of water and colorless, and does 40 damage plus 20 more damage if you get a heads when you flip a coin.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Sharpedo is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Carvanha into play (I reviewed Carvanha from this set yesterday) and then evolve Carvanha into Sharpedo.  If you read yesterday's review, you'll know that I thought Carvanha was a slightly below average basic Pokemon card, so if you use that card with this card I would use 1 each in a water type deck.  I would try and get Sharpedo on your bench and get two energy cards on it.  The earlier you get this card into the active Pokemon spot the more effective it is going to be, for example if you're facing a Pokemon that has 80 damage or less, you can use Hard Bite one turn, hopefully get a heads when you flip a coin so you do 60 damage, then your opponent will have to choose to attack Sharpedo and get knocked out or not attack at all.  If many cards in your deck have low retreat costs, I would move Sharpedo into the active Pokemon spot anytime the defending Pokemon has 20 damage or less on it, that way you will make them not attack you or attack you and knock themselves out every time.  So I think this Pokemon line from the Plasma Storm set is a very good addition to any water type deck out there, and just by adding 2 cards to your deck, I believe that that could make a big difference for you.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a very good stage 1 Pokemon card and would definitely be a good addition to your water type deck.  I really like Sharpedo's Ability and that it basically prevents your opponent from attacking you, also besides the great Ability, I like that Hard Bite does above average damage for only 2 energy cards and if you get in trouble using Sharpedo you can retreat it for free.  Overall, I would give this Pokemon family a 4 out of 5 rating, it is definitely a worthy addition to all water type decks.
