Metang -- Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Metang from the Guardians Rising Pokemon Card set.  Metang is a Stage 1, Metal type Pokemon card, with a HP of 90.  It has a x2 weakness to Fire type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to Psychic type Pokemon, and a three Colorless Energy card retreat cost.  Metang does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move on this card is called Ram, for one Colorless Energy card this move does 20 damage.  Core Beam is the second move on this card, for three Energy cards, two Metal and one Colorless, this move does 80 damage, however, after using this move, a Metal type Energy card must be discarded from Metang.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Metang is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Beldum into play (I reviewed Beldum from this set yesterday) and then evolve Beldum into Metang.  Beldum does have a Stage 2 evolution in Metagross GX, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Metang is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read my review of Beldum, you'll know that I thought that card was a below average Basic Pokemon card overall.  It did have a solid HP, low retreat cost, and could do 20 damage a turn for only one Energy card, but the card was limited in that it just had the one move, and its only move made you discard an Energy card each time the move was used.  So knowing this about Beldum and looking at this Metang card, this card is similar to Beldum in that it has a solid HP, and two decent moves, but the more powerful move on this card makes you discard an Energy card each time you attack, plus, this card has a very high retreat cost, which makes me want to not use this card in a deck.  I would much rather just evolve this entire line on the Bench and set up Metagross GX on the Bench instead of using Beldum and/or Metang in the Active Pokemon spot first.

Pokemon Card Rating:  
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Guardians Rising set.  Despite having a solid HP and two moves, I would not recommend using this card in a deck mainly because of its high retreat cost, and the fact you have to discard an Energy card when attacking.  Together with Beldum from this set, which I gave a 2 out of 5 rating, both cards combined get that same 2 out of 5 rating, look elsewhere if you're building a Metal type deck.

Metang -- Ancient Origins Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Metang from the Ancient Origins Pokemon Card set.  Metang is a stage 1, metal type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to psychic type Pokemon, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Metang does not have an Ability or Ancient Trait but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Metal Claw, for two energy cards, one each of metal and colorless, this move does 30 damage.  Metang's second move is called Bullet Punch, for three energy cards, two metal and one colorless, this move does 50 damage plus 20 more damage for each heads you get when you flip two coins, for a potential ceiling of 90 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Metang is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Beldum into play (I reviewed Beldum from this set yesterday) and then evolve Beldum into Metang.  Metang does have a Stage 2 evolution in Metagross, which there are two of in this set, that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed those cards yet, the strategy below will act like Metang is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read my review of Beldum, you'll know that I thought that card was a below average Basic Pokemon card, the main reason being its retreat cost was higher than its first move's attack cost, and the card was limited in that it could only do 10 damage a turn unless you wanted to put three energy cards on it and do 30 damage a turn.  So knowing this about Beldum and looking at this Metang card, this card would be decent if you were for sure using Metagross in your deck but I don't think it warrants use if you only want to use Beldum and Metang.  I do like that this card has the potential to do 90 damage a turn, so Trick Coin may be a good card to pair with this one, but for a Stage 1 card, I would have hoped that Bullet Punch would have for sure did 60 damage a turn and that Metang didn't have such a high retreat cost.  If you're building a metal type deck, it wouldn't be the worst thing ever to have a 1-1 line of Beldum and Metang, but there are plenty of better Pokemon cards out there.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Ancient Origins set.  I like this card's HP and the fact it has two moves, the second move potentially being able to do well above average damage.  What drives me away from using this card is its high retreat cost and the fact it may end up doing below average damage if you're not lucky.  So together with Beldum from this set, I can't give these two cards higher than a 2 out of 5 rating.

Metang -- Plasma Freeze Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Metang from the Plasma Freeze Pokemon Card Set.  Metang is a stage 1, psychic type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90.  It has a x2 weakness to psychic type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Metang does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Psy Bolt, this move requires one psychic energy card and does 10 damage, plus if you get a heads when you flip a coin, the defending Pokemon is paralyzed.  Metang's second move is called Psypunch, this move requires three energy cards, two colorless and one psychic, and does 50 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Metang is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Beldum into play (I reviewed Beldum from this set yesterday) and then evolve Beldum into Metang.  Metang does have a stage 2 evolution in Metagross that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Metang is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read yesterday's review, you'll know that I thought Beldum was an average basic Pokemon card that I would recommend using in a deck if you need one more psychic type Pokemon card in your deck.  So after knowing that, and reading the overview section of this post, I would not recommend using Metang with Beldum unless you plan on using Metagross as well.  I say this because neither of Metang's moves are very good.  Psy Bolt is average at best and Psypunch is definitely below average.  If you do choose to use this line in a psychic type deck, I wouldn't use more than a 2-1 line of Beldum and Metang.  I would try and get this line out in the active Pokemon spot early and use Psypunch most turns, and while you're waiting to get three energy cards on Metang, definitely use Psy Bolt so you can spend some time setting up your benched Pokemon while your opponent cannot attack.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a below average stage 1 Pokemon card. Even though this card has a good hp, average retreat cost and two moves, I'm still giving this card a below average rating because neither of Metang's moves make me want to include it in a deck.  So after looking at Beldum and Metang from the Plasma Freeze set, I would give them a 2 out of 5 rating.
