Kakuna -- Evolutions Pokemon Card Review

Kakuna Evolutions Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Kakuna from the XY Evolutions Pokemon Card set.  Kakuna is a Stage 1, grass type Pokemon card, with a HP of 80.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Kakuna does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Stiffen, for two colorless energy cards this move reduces any damage done to Kakuna during your opponent's next turn by 40.  Kakuna's second move is called Poison Powder, for two grass energy cards this move does 20 damage, plus poisons the defending Pokemon if you get a heads when flipping a coin.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Kakuna is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Weedle into play (I reviewed Weedle from this set yesterday) and then evolve Weedle into Kakuna.  Kakuna does have a Stage 2 evolution in Beedrill, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Kakuna is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read my review of Weedle, you'll know that I thought it was a below average Basic Pokemon card, unfortunately it has been a trend in the cards that I've reviewed from this set so far to have low HP, and Weedle was no exception with only 40 HP.  Besides the low HP, it was an average overall card, being able to do 10 damage and potentially poison the defending Pokemon for one energy card.  So knowing this about Weedle and looking at this Kakuna card, this card is similar to Metapod, but just a little bit better, so if you're in desperate need for some Grass type Pokemon in your deck, I would recommend this line over that one.  With that being said, Kakuna does have a below average HP, but it is somewhat quick on the attack, with only requiring two energy cards for each attack.  I would recommend waiting to see how good Beedrill is to consider using this line at all, but worse case scenario, you could use a 1-1 line of this Pokemon family in a deck, attach a Trick Coin trainer to this line, do damage and poison the defending Pokemon with either Weedle or Kakuna.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Evolutions set.  This Stage 1 card would be an average card if it had a better HP, so if you can get it more HP, this is a card to use in a deck, especially in one that is heavy on inflicting special conditions.  Because Weedle from this set is also below average, combined these two cards get a 2 out of 5 rating from me.

Kakuna -- Primal Clash Pokemon Card Review

Kakuna Primal Clash Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Kakuna from the Primal Clash Pokemon Card set.  Kakuna is a stage 1, grass type Pokemon card, with an hp of 80.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Kakuna does not have an Ability and it only has one move called Bug Bite which does 20 damage for one grass energy card.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Kakuna is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Weedle into play (I reviewed Weedle from this set yesterday) and then evolve Weedle into Kakuna.  Kakuna does have a stage 2 evolution in Beedrill that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Kakuna is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read yesterday's review of Weedle, you'll know that I thought that card was an extremely poor Basic Pokemon card, not only could it do no damage at all, it had a low HP, and the only move it had was to be able to put more Weedle cards into play.  So knowing this about Weedle and looking at this Kakuna card, you could potentially use a 1-1 line of Weedle and Kakuna in a deck if you can quickly evolve Weedle into Kakuna, that way you could do 20 damage a turn for only one energy card.  However, because Weedle is so bad from this set, I cannot really recommend using the first two Pokemon in this line together without considering Beedrill.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Primal Clash set.  Even though this card has a good move, that is quick and does above average damage for the amount of energy cards it requires, I am still giving this card a below average rating because Kakuna has a lower HP, really high retreat cost, and is limited in what it can do.  So together with Weedle from this set, I can only give these two cards a 1 rating, stay away from them at all costs.

Kakuna -- Pokemon X and Y Card Review

Kakuna Pokemon X and Y Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Kakuna from the X and Y Pokemon card set.  Kakuna is a stage 1, grass type Pokemon card, with an hp of 70.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Kakuna does not have an Ability and it only has one move called Harden.  This move requires one grass energy card and prevents damage done to Kakuna by your opponent's next attack if the damage is 60 or less.

So if you read yesterday's review of Weedle, you'll know that I though that card was pretty average and I was indifferent about using the card in a deck, it could potentially do 30 damage per turn, but it was quite limited.  So knowing this and taking a look at this Kakuna card, unless you specifically like using a defensive strategy in your decks, I would just either go with Weedle, or wait to use Weedle, Kakuna, and Beedrill.  Because this card cannot do anything, there really isn't a point of putting it in the active Pokemon spot if you're not going to evolve it.  So I would not use this card in a deck without Beedrill for sure.  Not only can this card not attack, but if you do choose to use Harden, you're going to have to add another energy card to Kakuna to be able to retreat it.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 1 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an extremely poor stage 1 Pokemon card from the XY set.  Not only does this card have low hp, but it has a retreat cost that is more than its only move, and this card only has one move which can't even attack.  I would stay away from this card at all costs if I were you, it is not good at all.  And pairing with just Weedle from the X and Y set, I would give the two cards a 1 out of 5 rating, just don't use them without Beedrill.

Kakuna -- Plasma Freeze Pokemon Card Review

Kakuna Plasma Freeze Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Kakuna from the Plasma Freeze Pokemon Card Set.  Kakuna is a stage 1, grass type Pokemon card, with an hp of 80.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Kakuna does not have an Ability and it only has one move.  The only move that this card has is called Hide, which requires one grass energy card and allows you to prevent all effects of an attack by your opponent during their next turn if you get a heads when you flip a coin.

So if you read yesterday's review, you'll know that I thought Weedle wasn't the greatest basic Pokemon card out there and that I wouldn't recommend using one in a deck, well after looking at this card there is no way ever you'd use this card in a deck if you didn't plan on using Beedrill.  I say this because Kakuna cannot do any damage at all, all it does is 50% of the time prevent attacks on it, so if for some reason you move this card to the active Pokemon spot without Beedrill ready, you're either going to have to attach two energy cards to it to retreat it or let it get knocked out.  So, as you can tell, I wouldn't use this card in a deck at all, because the only thing you can do with this card is Hide, which isn't a good strategy for winning any type of battle out there.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 1 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an extremely below average stage 1 Pokemon card. This card is below average in my opinion because it has a low hp, high retreat cost, and only one move that can't do any offense at all.  So judging this card on its own without looking at Beedrill, this card is definitely one of the worst stage 1 Pokemon cards you can have in your deck.  So so far, the line of Weedle and Kakuna get a very poor, 1 out of 5 rating from me.
