Golbat -- Sun and Moon Pokemon Card Review

Golbat Sun and Moon Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Golbat from the Sun and Moon Pokemon Card set.  Golbat is a Stage 1, Psychic type Pokemon card, with a HP of 80.  It has a x2 weakness to Lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to Fighting type Pokemon, and a free energy card retreat cost.  Golbat does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Super Poison Breath, for one Psychic Energy card, this move Poisons the defending Pokemon.  Golbat's second move is called Acrobatics, for two Colorless Energy cards, this move does 10 damage plus 20 more damage for each heads you get when you flip two coins.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Golbat is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Zubat into play (I reviewed Zubat from this set yesterday) and then evolve Zubat into Golbat.  Zubat does have a Stage 2 evolution in Crobat, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Golbat is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read my review of Zubat, you'll know that I thought it was a very poor Basic Pokemon card overall.  Zubat from this set only had one move, allowing you to see an opponent's card, it could not do damage when attacking, and it had a below average HP.  So, knowing this about Zubat and looking at this Golbat card, unless your deck is heavy on inflicting Special Conditions, I would pass on this card as well.  If Golbat was a Basic evolution Pokemon, it would be a great card to use, but similar to Zubat it has a below average HP, and two weak moves.  A Trick Coin trainer card could be used with its Acrobatics move to potentially do 50 damage for two Energy cards, but with the low HP on Golbat, it isn't worth the risk.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Sun and Moon set.  Other than having two moves and a free retreat cost, this card is poor overall.  It has a below average HP, and two somewhat weak moves.  Unless the plan is to just use Golbat to poison the defending Pokemon and immediately retreat it, do not use this card in a deck.  Together with Zubat from this set, which I gave a 1 out of 5 rating, I would give this Pokemon family a 1 out of 5 rating.

Golbat -- Phantom Forces Pokemon Card Review

Golbat Phantom Forces Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Golbat from the Phantom Forces Pokemon Card set.  Golbat is a stage 1, psychic type Pokemon card, with an hp of 70.  It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a free retreat cost.  Golbat's Ability is called Sneaky Bite and allows you to place two damage counters on one of your opponent's Pokemon when you move Golbat from your hand to evolve one of your Zubat in play.  Besides the Ability, Golbat just has one move called Swoop Across, this move requires one colorless energy and it does 10 damage to each of your opponent's Pokemon in play.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Golbat is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Zubat into play (I reviewed Zubat from this set yesterday) and then evolve Zubat into Golbat.  Golbat does have a stage 2 evolution in Crobat that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Golbat is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read yesterday's review of Zubat, you'll know that I thought the card was a below average Basic Pokemon card, at least on its own.  I would still recommend using the card in a deck because it could do 10 damage to any of the opponent's Pokemon in play, but the card was quite limited overall with only one move and 50 HP.  So knowing this about Zubat and looking at this Golbat card, if you're building a spread damage type deck, I would highly recommend using this Pokemon line in a deck.  Both Zubat and Golbat can do spread damage and since Golbat has a free retreat cost, this card works perfectly in any type deck, you can attach any energy card you like to it, and do 10 damage to each of your opponent's Pokemon.  I would probably put a 1-1 line in a deck, try and get this line into the active Pokemon spot very early in the game and get a ton of damage spread around your opponent's Pokemon, setting up those Pokemon for many one hit knock outs later in the game.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 5 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a great Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Phantom Forces set.  This card doesn't have the greatest HP and can't do a ton of damage each turn, but I would still highly recommend using this card in a deck because it can attack quickly, do damage to several Pokemon at once, and can retreat for free.  So together with Zubat, I would give this line a 4 out of 5 rating, definitely use this Pokemon family if you are building a spread damage type deck.  So even though I gave Zubat a 2 out of 5 rating, make sure to use this line in a deck.

Golbat -- Plasma Storm Pokemon Card Review

Golbat Plasma Storm Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Golbat from the Plasma Storm Pokemon Card Set.  Golbat is a stage 1, psychic type Pokemon card, with an hp of 80.  It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Golbat does not have an Ability and it only has one move.  The only move it has is called Spiral Drain, this move requires two energy cards, one each of psychic and colorless, and does 20 damage, when using this move you can also heal 20 damage from Golbat.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Golbat is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get 1 of the two Zubat cards from this set into play (I reviewed both the past two days) and then evolve Zubat into Golbat.  Golbat does have a stage 2 evolution in Crobat that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Golbat is the final evolution in this line.  So after reviewing both Zubat cards from this set, I would recommend using the first Zubat card in this set, #52/135, with this Golbat card because both have the same move, Spiral Drain.  I would use this version of Zubat because it has a higher hp, and it can heal damage every turn it attacks.  I would try and evolve Zubat into Golbat on the bench and then move Golbat into the active Pokemon spot as soon as possible when you can evolve Zubat.  I would put two energy cards on Golbat, and then use Spiral Drain every turn, trying to stay in the active Pokemon spot as long as possible so that I could set up my other benched Pokemon.  I would actually use this line in a psychic type deck, I would use a 1-1 line of the Zubat card I mentioned and this Golbat card.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an average stage 1 Pokemon card. Even though this card has a below average hp, I am still giving this card an average rating because I like that Spiral Drain heals 20 damage per turn from Golbat, so early on in the game this card will take awhile to get knocked out.  Also this card does have a low retreat cost, and 20 damage for two energy cards is a pretty standard move.  So if you are looking to add a card or two to a psychic type deck I don't think you can go wrong by using Zubat and Golbat from the Plasma Storm set in your deck.
