Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Walrein from the Primal Clash Pokemon Card Set. Walrein is a stage 2, water type Pokemon card, with an hp of 150. It has a x2 weakness to metal type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a four colorless energy card retreat cost. Walrein does not have an Ability but it does have two moves. The first move that this card has is called Knock Over, this move requires two energy cards to use, one each of water and colorless, and does 50 damage, plus you can discard all Stadium cards in play. Walrein's second move is called Frozen Splash, this move requires four energy cards to use, two each of water and colorless, and does 70 damage plus 70 more damage if you are facing a fighting type Pokemon.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Walrein is a stage 2 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Spheal into play and then evolve it into Sealeo before you can evolve Sealeo into Walrein, both of those Pokemon are from this set and I've reviewed all three cards, since there are two Spheal cards, the past few days. If you've read my reviews of those cards you'll know that neither I thought the first Spheal card from this set was very poor, but the other Spheal and then Sealeo were both average Pokemon cards and could be used in a deck on their own, since they both could do a fair amount of damage. So knowing this about the first two forms in this Pokemon family and looking at this Walrein card, this Walrein card is pretty similar to both Spheal and Sealeo from this set, a card that can do a good amount of damage, but has an extremely high retreat cost, and can't do much else other than attack. So overall, since you would have to use 2 other Pokemon cards to use Walrein in a deck, I probably wouldn't want to use this line in a deck, but it definitely wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to have a water type deck with this Pokemon line. I would only use a 1-1-1 line of this Pokemon family and probably try and get four energy cards on Walrein eventually in the bench, then really hope the defending Pokemon is a fighting type Pokemon, move Walrein to the active Pokemon spot and use Frozen Splash every turn. If you don't have four energy cards on Walrein, of course you'll want to use Knock Over, which is a pretty decent move.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating. In my opinion this is an average Stage 2 Pokemon card from the Primal Clash set. This card definitely has some positives like its high HP, and two moves that both can do major damage, however, this card is underwhelming if you aren't facing a fighting type Pokemon and its retreat cost is really high. So overall, even though I have given all three Pokemon in this line, if you only look at the second Spheal card, 3 out of 5 ratings, altogether I can only give this line a 2 out of 5 rating, all cards are average and combined they just don't do much for me.

The most recent English expansion to include Walrein as the highest rarity it has been is EX Power Keepers. That rarity was a Rare Holo ex.
