Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Chandelure from the Phantom Forces Pokemon Card Set. Chandelure is a stage 2, psychic type Pokemon card, with an hp of 130. It has a x2 weakness to darkness type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost. Chandelure's Ability is called Fainting spell, this allows you to flip a coin if Chandelure is knocked out and if you get a heads, the defending Pokemon is also knocked out. Besides the Ability, Chandelure just has one move called Cursed Drop, this move requires three energy cards, two colorless and one psychic, and allows you to put 6 damage counters on your opponent's Pokemon in any way that you'd like.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Chandelure is a stage 2 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Litwick into play and then evolve it into Lampent before you can evolve Lampent into Chandelure, both of those Pokemon are from this set and I've reviewed both of them the last couple of days. If you've read my reviews of those cards you'll know that both of those cards are below average cards, neither have high HP or even average for that matter, and neither can do much damage without either flipping a coin or depending on the amount of cards in the discard pile. So knowing this about the first two Pokemon in this line and looking at Chandelure, I would definitely consider using Chandelure in a spread damage type deck, without a spread damage type deck I wouldn't use this line at all. I would recommend using a 1-1-1 line of Litwick, Lampent, and Chandelure and set up Chandelure on the bench, get three energy cards on it and then use Cursed Drop every turn when in the active Pokemon spot. If you get this card into the active Pokemon spot early in the game, you will set up your other spread damage Pokemon to have one hit knock outs, if you get this card into the active Pokemon spot later in the game, you can strategically use that 60 damage from Cursed Drop to knock out your opponent's Pokemon every turn.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating. In my opinion this is an above average Stage 2 Pokemon card from the Phantom Forces set. Even though this card has a lower HP, and an average retreat cost, I would still highly recommend using this card in a spread damage type deck. I really like Chandelure's Ability giving you a 50/50 chance of knocking out the defending Pokemon if they knock out Chandelure, giving your opponent a reason knock to attack you every turn. Then, the only move that Chandelure has is very good, even though it does average damage, spreading 60 damage around can do major harm on your opponent's cards. So overall, if you are building a spread damage type deck, definitely use this line, other than that, I can't give this line more than a 2 out of 5 rating, both Litwick and Lampent were extremely poor and Chandelure can't pull those two 2 ratings up much.
