Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Hariyama from the Furious Fists Pokemon Card Set. Hariyama is a stage 1, fighting type Pokemon card, with an hp of 120. It has a x2 weakness to psychic type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a four colorless energy card retreat cost. Hariyama's Ability is called Thick Fat and says that any damage done to Hariyama by fire or water type Pokemon is reduced by 30. Besides the Ability, Hariyama has one move called Rocket Slap, this move requires three energy cards, two colorless and one fighting, and does 80 damage.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Hariyama is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Makuhita into play (I reviewed Makuhita from this set yesterday) and then evolve Makuhita into Hariyama. If you read yesterday's review of Golett, you'll know that I thought that card was a below average Basic Pokemon because even though it had a high HP, mainly because both of its moves were below average and the retreat cost on the card was extremely high. So knowing this about Makuhita and looking at this Hariyama card, if you decide to use this line in a deck, I would highly recommend setting up Makuhita and evolving it into Hariyama on the bench, then I would make sure to have at least 3 energy cards on Hariyama before moving it to the active Pokemon spot, allowing you to use Rocket Slap right away. Water and fire type Pokemon are pretty prevalent in decks, so you may be able to utilize Hariyama's Ability quite often making its HP of 120 seem even higher. This card definitely isn't a bad card and I could see myself using a 1-1 line of this family in a deck. Once you get Hariyama set up it is a very powerful attacker, but just note you need to have four energy cards to retreat it, and the most energy cards it requires to attack are three.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating. In my opinion this is an above average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Furious Fists set. I think this is an above average card because Hariyama has an above average HP, one good move, and an Ability that can be very effective. I would definitely consider using this card in a deck, however when combining it with Makuhita from this set, which I gave a 2 rating, I would only give the family a 3 out of 5 rating, so you can definitely find better lines out there to use.
