Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Solgaleo GX from the Sun and Moon Pokemon Card Set. Solgaleo GX is a Stage 2, Metal type Pokemon card, with a HP of 250. It has a x2 weakness to Fire type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to Psychic type Pokemon, and a three Colorless Energy card retreat cost. Solgaleo GX has an Ability plus two moves. Its Ability is called Ultra Road and says that once per turn, before your attack, you may switch your Active Pokemon with one of your Benched Pokemon. Besides the Ability, Solgaleo's first move is called Sunsteel Strike, for three Energy cards, two Metal and one Colorless, this move does 230 damage, however, you must discard all Energy attached to Solgaleo GX after using this move. Sol Burst GX is this card's second move, for one Metal Energy card, this move allows you to search your deck for up to 5 Basic Energy cards and attach them to your Pokemon in any way you'd like.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, first off, the way a Pokemon GX works is that it is used instead of a regular Solgaleo card, so if you have Cosmoem in play, you evolve that Pokemon directly into Solgaleo GX. In play, only one GX move can be used during the entire game, and once a Pokemon GX is knocked out, two prize cards are taken instead of one. Since Solgaleo GX is a Stage 2 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Cosmog into play and then evolve it into Cosmoem before you can evolve Cosmoem into Solgaleo GX, both of those Pokemon are from this set and I've reviewed both of them in the past. If you've read my reviews of those cards you'll know that I thought both cards were well below average, if you plan on using Solgaleo GX in your deck, evolve the entire line on the Bench. Cosmog can only draw a card, it can't do damage when attacking, and Cosmoem's only move is a free retreat. Regardless of the type of deck you're building, I would highly recommend trying to fit Solgaleo GX into it. You don't even have to put Solgaleo GX into the Active Pokemon spot, you can just utilize its Ability from the Bench, giving all of your Pokemon a free retreat cost. However, if you do get three Energy cards on Solgaleo GX, it can be a very powerful attacker, and if you choose to use its GX move, you can for sure use Sunsteel Strike 2 times in 3 turns, doing 230 damage a turn.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 5 out of 5 rating. In my opinion this is an excellent Pokemon GX card from the Sun and Moon set. I really like this card overall, especially its Ability, making a deck that much quicker by giving all Pokemon free retreat costs. Add in the fact it can do an insane amount of damage when attacking, and I would conclude that this card is one of the best from the Sun and Moon set. Because you'll never want to put Cosmog or Cosmoem in the Active Pokemon spot, this entire line gets a 4 out of 5 rating from me.
