Caterpie -- Sun and Moon Pokemon Card Review

Caterpie Sun and Moon Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Caterpie from the Sun and Moon set.  This is the first card in the Sun and Moon set.  Caterpie is a basic, grass type Pokemon card with a HP of 50.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Caterpie does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Nap, for one colorless energy card this move heals 20 damage from Caterpie.  Caterpie's second move is called Gnaw, for two colorless energy cards this move does 20 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Caterpie is a basic Pokemon card with a Stage 1 evolution in Metapod, and a Stage 2 evolution in Butterfree, which I'll be reviewing the next couple of days, you'll more than likely want to use some of those Pokemon with this card, however, since I have not reviewed any of those cards yet, I will just act like Caterpie does not have any evolution forms and that it will be used on its own.  On its own, this card would be solid overall if it didn't have a below average HP, plus add in the fact that you need two energy cards on this card to do damage when attacking and this card is below average.  I do like that both of Caterpie's moves require colorless type energy cards meaning this card could be used in any type deck and potentially could only need 1 Double Colorless energy card to use either of its moves.  Ideally, you should pass on using this card on its own in a deck, but if you have to play it in your deck, use whichever move you have the necessary energy cards for and try and evolve it as quickly as possible.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a below average Basic Pokemon card from the Sun and Moon Pokemon card set.  Like I mentioned in the strategy section of this post, with a below average HP and a slow attacking move, this card isn't that good of a Basic Pokemon card overall, it does have some positives, like having two moves and requiring colorless energy cards for both moves, but I would recommend either using a different grass type Basic Pokemon in your deck, or using the full line of this evolution in your deck.

Dragonite EX -- Evolutions Pokemon Card Review

Dragonite EX XY Evolutions Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Dragonite EX from the XY Evolutions Pokemon Card Set.  Dragonite EX is a basic, EX, colorless type Pokemon card with a HP of 180. It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Dragonite EX has an Ability called Pull Up, that says when this card is moved from your hand to your bench, you may move 2 Basic Pokemon from your discard pile into your hand.  Besides the Ability, Dragonite EX just has one move called Hyper Beam, for 4 colorless energy cards this move does 130 damage, plus it allows you to discard an energy attached to your opponent's active Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, because Dragonite EX is a basic Pokemon card you won't need to use any other cards with this card.  But remember, because this card is an EX card, if this card is knocked out, two prize cards are taken instead of one.  So the main reason you'd want to use this card in a deck is for its Ability, you could use this card solely from the bench, allowing you to use less of an important card, just retrieving it from the discard pile multiple times, or make it seem like you're using more than 4 of that same card, giving you a much better chance of always being able to play that great Basic Pokemon card.  If you're using 4 Double Colorless energy cards in your deck, this card is pretty powerful, for two energy cards doing 130 damage.  So overall, if you're using a lot of Basic Pokemon in your deck, or are already using 4 Double Colorless energy, this card should definitely be used in a deck, since it can aid in retrieving Pokemon from the discard pile and it can be a heavy hitter.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an above average EX Pokemon card from the XY Evolutions set.  Like I mentioned above, this card can be a powerful attacker or it can be used solely on the bench, so there are two great strategies this card can be used for.  Other than being slow on the attack, I like this card overall, it fits into any type deck, and can really help your entire deck out.

Porygon -- Evolutions Pokemon Card Review

Porygon XY Evolutions Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Porygon from the XY Evolutions set.  Porygon is a basic, colorless type Pokemon card with a HP of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Porygon does not have an Ability and it only has one move.  The only move that this card has is called Conversion 3, for one colorless energy card this move allows you to choose one of the Pokemon types from the TCG and make your opponent's Pokemon weak to that Pokemon type until the end of your next turn.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Porygon is a Basic Pokemon with a Stage 1 evolution in Porygon2 and a Stage 2 evolution in Porygon-Z, you'll more than likely want to use Porygon with one or both of these Pokemon, however in Base Set, Porygon did not have any evolution forms, so neither of those two Pokemon are in this set, the newest set to feature those two Pokemon would be Ancient Origins.  So, just looking at this Porygon card, it is definitely a usable card if you have a way to freely switch Pokemon in and out of your active Pokemon spot, ideally you would use Porygon's Conversion move the first turn, change the opponent's weakness to something you have in your deck, then move that type of Pokemon into the active Pokemon spot the next turn and attack, more than likely doing double damage since the defending Pokemon will be weak to the attacking Pokemon type.  You could go back and forth with these two Pokemon for as long as possible.  The only trouble with this strategy is that it limits the Pokemon you can use since they have to have a free retreat cost or you have to use a bunch of trainer cards that allow you to switch out your active Pokemon for free.  While you could definitely build a deck around this strategy, I would rather just have one of these Porygon cards in a deck and give the strategy a try, and if it really works for you, add in Porygon cards as time goes by.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a below average Basic Pokemon card overall.  While I love Porygon's Conversion move since it can double the amount of damage an attack does, this card can't do any damage on its own, meaning you're always going to have to switch this card out if you want to do damage.  So, while there is potential with this card, there are much better standalone Basic Pokemon cards out there that should be considered before this card.

Chansey -- Evolutions Pokemon Card Review

Chansey XY Evolutions Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Chansey from the XY Evolutions Pokemon Card Set.  Chansey is a basic, colorless type Pokemon card with a HP of 120.  It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Chansey does not have an Ability, but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is Scrunch, for two colorless energy cards this move prevents all damage done to Chansey during your opponent's next turn if you get a heads when flipping a coin.  Chansey's second move is called Double-Edge and for four colorless energy cards this move does 80 damage, however the move also does 80 damage to Chansey.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Chansey is a Basic Pokemon with a Stage 1 evolution in Blissey, you'll more than likely want to use Chansey with its evolution form, the newest set to feature Blissey is Phantom Forces.  Of course Chansey did not have an Evolution until the 2nd generation of Pokemon, and in the TCG not until the Neo Revelation set.  So, just looking at Chansey on its own, even though you can speed it up by using Double Colorless energy cards and essentially do Scrunch for one energy card and Double-Edge for two, it still isn't worth using in a deck, I say this because even though you could up your chances at hitting a heads when flipping a coin when using Scrunch, you only can use Double-Edge twice before knocking Chansey out.  In today's game, 80 damage isn't that much, so there is no need to do that much damage back onto Chansey, just use a card that doesn't have self-inflicted damage instead of this card.  Overall, this card is just too slow and too damaging to itself to recommend use in a deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 1 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering any Blissey cards, this is a well below average Basic Pokemon card and it is one of the main reasons so many cards from Evolutions aren't worth much, they just are not good in the TCG and have no demand for them.  This card does have an excellent HP, but both of its moves are slow, without the use of Double Colorless energy cards, Chansey's retreat cost is high, and the amount of damage it does to itself isn't worth it, so definitely do not use this card in a deck.
