Cherubi -- Plasma Storm Pokemon Card Review

Cherubi Plasma Storm Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Cherubi from the Plasma Storm Pokemon Card Set.  Cherubi is a basic, grass type Pokemon card with an hp of 40.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to water type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Cherubi does not have an Ability, and it only has one move.  The only move Cherubi has is called Leech Seed, this move requires one grass energy card and does 10 damage plus heals 10 damage from Cherubi.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Cherubi is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Cherrim, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution.  So on its own, I would not use Cherubi in a deck on its own.  I say this because Cherubi has too low of hp for my liking and the only move it has, even though it is quick, can only do 10 damage.  This card wouldn't be the worst card in the world to put in a deck but I wouldn't.  If you do use this card in a deck, because it has such a low hp you'll want to get it into the active Pokemon spot early in the game so it faces weaker Pokemon.  Your only option once it is in the active Pokemon spot is to use Leech Seed every turn.  Because Cherubi is a weaker Pokemon, I would only have 1 in a deck if you use this card at all.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is below average basic Pokemon card.  This card only has the one move which doesn't do much damage plus it has a below average hp.  So I wouldn't recommend using this card in a deck, we'll have to see tomorrow when I review Cherrim if this card should be used with that one.

Vespiquen -- Plasma Storm Pokemon Card Review

Vespiquen Plasma Storm Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Vespiquen from the Plasma Storm Pokemon Card Set.  Vespiquen is a stage 1, grass type Pokemon card, with an hp of 100.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Vespiquen does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move this card has is called Gather Order, this move requires one grass energy card and allows you to search your deck for as many Combee cards as you like and put them onto your bench.  Vespiquen's second move is called Damage Beat, this move requires two energy cards, one each of grass and colorless, and does 20 damage times the number of damage counters on the defending Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Vespiquen is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Combee into play (I reviewed Combee from this set yesterday) and then evolve Combee into Vespiquen.  If you read yesterday's review, you'll know that I thought Combee was a solid basic Pokemon card that can be used on its own in a deck.  But, if you choose to use Combee with Vespiquen, you either have to keep Combee on the bench until you evolve it into Vespiquen or move Combee into the active Pokemon spot and not attack at all.  I would recommend the former path.  I would put two energy cards on Vespiquen and always use Damage Beat, you'll have to have Pokemon cards with low or free retreat costs so you can easily move Vespiquen in and out of the active Pokemon spot because Damage Beat will not do any damage to Pokemon with no damage on them.  So I would move in Vespiquen to knock out the defending Pokemon then retreat it the next turn.  I would suggest using a 1-1 line of Combee and Vespiquen in a grass type deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an average stage 1 Pokemon card. This card has a good hp, low retreat cost, and one good move out of the two, I wish Gather Order would have been a little bit better and I wish this card could attack Pokemon that didn't have damage on them already, but I guess if that was the case, this card would be much better than a three.  Overall, I think this line is solid, and I would give Combee and Vespiquen from the Plasma Storm set a 3 out of 5 rating.

Combee -- Plasma Storm Pokemon Card Review

Combee Plasma Storm Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Combee from the Plasma Storm Pokemon Card Set.  Combee is a basic, grass type Pokemon card with an hp of 30.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Combee does not have an Ability, and it only has one move.  The only move Combee has is called Sting Missile, this move requires one grass energy card and does 30 damage.  However, after using this move you must take Combee and all cards attached to it and shuffle them back into your deck.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Combee is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Vespiquen, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution.  So on its own, I would consider using just Combee in a deck, I would only put 1 in a grass type deck and I would hope to get it in the active Pokemon spot to start the game or at least very early in the game.  I would put it into the active Pokemon spot as soon as possible, attach one energy card to it, use Pin Missile then put it back into my deck.  30 damage is quite a bit of damage to do for a basic Pokemon and especially for one energy card.  However, because Combee has such a low hp, I wouldn't put many of these cards in a deck, and this card is basically worthless later in the game when Pokemon are in play that can do 30 damage or more a turn.  So again, I would use this card in a grass type deck on its own, but I would only use 1, definitely not more than that.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an average basic Pokemon card.  Even though this card has an extremely low hp, I still think this card is average overall.  It can definitely manage on its own, at least early in the game.  I like Combee's one move, it is quick and does a good amount of damage, plus you can basically retreat it after attacking for free.  Just make sure when you use Combee, you have Pokemon on your bench you can put into the active Pokemon spot.

Torterra -- Plasma Storm Pokemon Card Review

Torterra Plasma Storm Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Torterra from the Plasma Storm Pokemon Card Set.  Torterra is a stage 2, grass type Pokemon card, with an hp of 150.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to water type Pokemon, and a four colorless energy card retreat cost.  Torterra does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move it has is called Guard Press, this move requires three energy cards, two colorless and one grass, and does 60 damage.  After using this move, any attack that your opponent tries using on you immediately after is reduced by 20.  Torterra's second move is called Rumble Stomp, this move requires four energy cards, three colorless and one grass, and does 80 damage plus 20 more damage for each heads you get in a row when you flip a coin.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Torterra is a stage 2 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Turtwig into play and then evolve it into Grotle before you can evolve Grotle into Torterra, both of those Pokemon are from this set and I've reviewed both of them the last couple of days.  Neither Turtwig or Grotle are very good, so neither should be in your deck if you don't plan on using Torterra with them.  With that being said, if you want to use Torterra in your deck, try your hardest to evolve into Torterra on your bench.  You'll want to do this because neither of Torterra's pre evolutions are very good and Torterra is slow so you don't want it in the active Pokemon spot before it can attack.  I would try and get four energy cards on Torterra before moving it into the active Pokemon spot.  When it is in the active Pokemon spot I would use Rumble Stomp every turn.  I wouldn't make this card the focal point of my deck but it may be a nice Pokemon family to include in a somewhat grass type deck, I wouldn't use more than a 3-2-1 line of this Pokemon family in my deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an average stage 2 Pokemon card. There are some good things about this card and some bad things.  For good things, this card has a high hp, it requires mostly colorless energy cards to attack, and both of its moves do a good bit of damage.  However, this card has an extremely high retreat cost, both of its moves require a lot of energy, and the Pokemon that are needed to use this card aren't very good.  So overall, I would give this line a 3 out of 5 rating.  Torterra is very solid but the other two Pokemon are not.
