Primeape -- Steam Siege Pokemon Card Review

Primeape Steam Siege Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Primeape from the Steam Siege Pokemon Card Set.  Primeape is a stage 1, fighting type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90. It has a x2 weakness to psychic type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Primeape does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Swagger, for one colorless energy card this move does 20 damage, plus, if you get a heads when flipping a coin, the defending Pokemon must discard an energy attached to it.  Primeape's second move is called Spirited Throw and for two fighting energy cards, this move does 30 damage, however, if before attacking, the defending Pokemon has more remaining HP than Primeape, Spirited Throw does 60 more damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Primeape is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Mankey into play (I reviewed Mankey from this set yesterday) and then evolve Mankey into Primeape.  If you read yesterday's review of Mankey, you'll know that I thought it was an average Basic Pokemon card.  Overall, it had a low retreat cost, solid HP, and two good moves.  The card was limited in that it could only do 10 damage in one turn, or 25 damage over two turns, but it was good enough that I would recommend using it on its own.  So knowing this about Mankey and looking at this Primeape card, if you're building a fighting type deck, this card is definitely worth it, I could see using a 1-1 or a 2-2 line of this Pokemon family.  You could start the game with Mankey in the active Pokemon spot and evolve into Primeape soon thereafter, or you could just set this line up on the bench.  Both moves on their own would make Primeape a solid, yet quick attacker, but throw in the potential to do 90 damage a turn with Spirited Throw, and this is a very powerful card and one that not only deals out damage, but could prevent your opponent from attacking and thus allowing Spirited Throw to do 90 damage instead of 30.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an above average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Steam Siege set.  Overall, this is a great card to use in a fighting type deck.  It has a solid HP, low retreat cost, and two good moves, both quick on the attack, and both able to do a fair amount of damage.  The reason this card is above average is because of the chance of doing 90 damage per turn for only 2 energy cards, doing this amount of damage for that little of energy is a great way to get ahead of your opponent early, or if you're in desperation mode, do that little extra damage that you need to do to win the game.  Overall, I would give the line of Mankey and Primeape from this set a 4 out of 5 rating, it should be considered when building a fighting type deck.

I would say the 2nd English set that include a Primeape card was the Team Rocket set, if a Dark Primeape counts. If not, the second card is in the Legendary Collection set.
