Yanmega -- Steam Siege Pokemon Card Review

Yanmega Steam Siege Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Yanmega from the Steam Siege Pokemon Card Set.  Yanmega is a stage 1, grass type Pokemon card, with an hp of 110. It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a free retreat cost.  Yanmega's Ability is called Sonic Vision and says that if you have exactly 4 cards in your hand, ignore all energy costs for attacks on Yanmega.  Besides the Ability, Yanmega has one move called Assault Boom, for three colorless energy cards this move does 50 damage plus 70 more damage if your opponent has a Pokemon Tool card attached to their active Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Yanmega is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Yanma into play (I reviewed Yanma from this set yesterday) and then evolve Yanma into Yanmega.  There is a Yanmega BREAK card in this set and I'll be reviewing it tomorrow.  If you read yesterday's review of Yanma, you'll know that I thought it was a below average Basic Pokemon card, it had a good HP and two moves, but neither move it had was that great, and it was slow to do any damage when attacking.  So knowing this about Yanma and looking at this Yanmega card, it would make most sense to use a 1-1 line of this Pokemon family in a deck and keeping this line on the bench until needed.  You really don't need any energy cards for this card, get Yanmega on the bench and when you have 4 cards in your hand, move Yanmega to the active Pokemon spot and attack for free.  You can also stash Yanmega on the bench and prevent your opponent from using a Tool card or if they do use a Tool card do 120 damage to that Pokemon for three energy cards.  Because of Yanmega's free retreat cost, it definitely makes sense to include a 1-1 line of this family in a deck, especially if you use plenty of trainer cards and other ways to modify your hand to have only 4 cards.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an above average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Steam Siege set.  Face value wise this card is more average than above average, but this card definitely has possibilities with a high HP, free retreat cost, and an Ability and move that work very well together with its retreat cost.  Together with Yanma from this set, I would give this line a 3 out of 5 rating.
