Gardevoir -- Ancient Origins Pokemon Card Review

Gardevoir Ancient Origins Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Gardevoir from the Ancient Origins Pokemon Card Set.  Gardevoir is a stage 2, fairy type Pokemon card, with an hp of 130.  It has a x2 weakness to metal type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to darkness type Pokemon, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Gardevoir's Ability is called Bright Heal and says that once per turn you may heal 20 damage from each of your Pokemon.  Besides the Ability, Gardevoir just has one move called Telekinesis, this move requires three colorless energy cards to use and does 50 damage to one of your opponent's Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Gardevoir is a stage 2 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Ralts into play and then evolve it into Kirlia before you can evolve Kirlia into Gardevoir, both of those Pokemon are from this set and I've reviewed both of them the last two days.  If you've read my reviews of those cards you'll know that I thought Ralts was an average Basic Pokemon card, one that could be used on its own as a starter type Pokemon since it had a solid HP, two moves, and a low retreat cost, however I recommended either using that card by itself or using this entire family because I thought Kirlia from this set was underpowered and had a lower HP than I'd like.  So knowing this about the first two Pokemon in this line and taking a look at Gardevoir, the main reason you would want to use this entire line of Pokemon is to take advantage of Gardevoir's Ability which can heal 20 damage from each of your Pokemon in play each turn.  Because you aren't using this card as an attacker but instead keeping it on your bench, I wouldn't use more than a 1-1-1 line of this entire line.  I would also make sure you have plenty of Pokemon in your deck that either have a free retreat cost or a very powerful Pokemon card that does damage to your own Pokemon, either way, you can then make sure to move those damaged Pokemon to your bench and heal them every turn with Gardevoir.  It is nice that this card requires only colorless energy cards to attack meaning it fits in any type deck, but doing 50 damage for three energy cards is definitely an underpowered move.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an above average Stage 2 Pokemon card from the Ancient Origins set, based solely on its Ability.  You definitely can't beat being able to heal 20 damage a turn from all of your Pokemon in play, it is like you are using multiple Potion cards each turn.  But, if you don't want to use this card for its healing ability, I wouldn't recommend using this line in a deck, just use Ralts as a starter type Pokemon at the most.  Altogether, I would give this line a 3 out of 5 rating, it is very solid overall and can be used in a multitude of decks.

I'm not much of a competitive commentator, but I hope you don't mind if I take a moment to comment on this card's AMAZING artwork. Tokiya is easily one of my favorite illustrators and to see him go all out on one of my favorite Pokemon is incredible! Even if I don't plan to play it competitively this is still a card I really want to have in my collection.

On Saturday, 26th May, 2012, you reviewed Gardevoir (109/108, Rare Secret) from Dark Explorers on your blog if the previous Gardevoir card does not count other variant of Gardevoir. If counting other variant of Gardevoir, on Tuesday, 2nd June, 2015, you reviewed Gardevoir EX Full Art (155/160, Rare Ultra) from Primal Clash on your blog.
