Donphan -- Plasma Storm Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Donphan from the Plasma Storm Pokemon Card Set.  Donphan is a stage 1, fighting type Pokemon card, with an hp of 130.  It has a x2 weakness to water type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to lightning type Pokemon, and a four colorless energy card retreat cost.  Donphan does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move this card has is called Spinning Turn, this move requires one fighting energy card and does 40 damage, however after using this move you must switch Donphan from the active Pokemon spot and put one of your benched Pokemon in that spot instead.  Donphan's second move is called Wreck, this move requires four energy cards, two each of fighting and colorless, and does 80 damage.  However, if you have a Stadium card in play while using this move, it does 140 damage total instead of 80.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Donphan is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Phanpy into play (I reviewed Phanpy from this set yesterday) and then evolve Phanpy into Donphan.  If you read yesterday's review, you'll know that I thought Phanpy would be an okay starter type Pokemon card because it has such a high hp, but I recommended keeping Phanpy on the bench until you can evolve it into Donphan and then attach four energy cards to Donphan while it is on the bench.  So ideally, you'll set this card up on your bench and also have an energy card in play or use one when you move Donphan to the active Pokemon spot.  I would use Wreck as many turns as possible then why it is time to retreat, do not waste four energy cards retreating, but use Spinning Turn, do some damage and retreat for free.  Because Donphan is a slow Pokemon card, I would not use more than 1 in a deck, I would consider using a 2-1 or 1-1 line of Phanpy and Donphan in a fighting type deck.  But no matter how many of each Pokemon from this line you use, make sure to have a plethora of Stadium cards in your deck so you can maximize Donphan's Wreck move.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an above average stage 1 Pokemon card.  Like Phanpy from yesterday, I like that this card has an extremely high hp plus two moves.  The only real negative of this card is its high retreat cost but Spinning Turn greatly reduces the need to retreat so it really isn't that bad.  So overall, this entire line of Phanpy and Donphan from the Plasma Storm set is pretty good, I would give it a 4 out of 5 rating, this line would be a great line to have in a fighting type deck, not as the main line, but as a great role player.
