Metapod -- Evolutions Pokemon Card Review

Metapod Evolutions Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Metapod from the Evolutions Pokemon Card set.  Metapod is a Stage 1, grass type Pokemon card, with a HP of 70.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Metapod does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Stiffen, for two colorless energy cards this move reduces damage done to it by your opponent during their next turn by 40.  Metapod's second move is called Stun Spore, for two grass energy cards, this move does 20 damage, plus it paralyzes the defending Pokemon if you get a heads when flipping a coin.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Metapod is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Caterpie into play (I reviewed Caterpie from this set yesterday) and then evolve Caterpie into Metapod.  Metapod does have a Stage 2 evolution in Butterfree, but it isn't in this set, the most recent sets to have Butterfree are Flashfire and Generations, but a Butterfree will also be in Sun and Moon.  Since Butterfree isn't in this set, I will only be looking at the first two Pokemon in this line by themselves, yesterday I reviewed Caterpie and thought it was a below average Basic Pokemon overall.  It was fairly solid other than its extremely low HP, which made it in my opinion unusable in play.  So knowing this about Caterpie and looking at this Metapod card, this card is very similar in that it is solid overall outside of its HP, and because of this, I can't recommend using either card in this line without using the whole line.  I do like that Metapod has two moves, and if you're using 4 Double Colorless energy cards in your deck, for only one energy card you could give yourself a fair amount of time to find Butterfree in your deck or set up your benched Pokemon when using Stiffen.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Evolutions set.  This Stage 1 card has a well below average HP making this card below average overall.  Because both Caterpie and Metapod have such low HP, I would pass on using either of these Pokemon in a deck without Butterfree.  Combined, these cards get only a 1 out of 5 rating from me.
