Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Arcanine from the Next Destinies set. Before I get too far into the review, I can't believe how excited I am to see the original Pokemon in these newer sets! This is a stage 1, fire type Pokemon card, with an hp of 130. It has a x2 weakness to water type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a 3 colorless energy card retreat cost. Arcanine's Ability is called Blazing Mane and says that whenever this Pokemon is your active Pokemon and damaged or even knocked out by the defending Pokemon, that Pokemon is burned. Besides the Ability, Arcanine has one move called Fire Spin which takes three energy cards, two fire and one colorless, and does 100 damage. However, after using this move, you must flip a coin, if you get a tails, you must discard two energy cards attached to Arcanine.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, this is definitely a strong defensive card since it prevents your opponent from wanting to attack you since it will get burned, and with 130 hp, it will last awhile even if it does get attacked. With that being said, you'll need some luck with this card so you can potentially use Fire Spin more than one turn in a row. A way to prevent this, is to attach more than 3 cards to Arcanine so if you do flip a tails when you use Fire Spin, you should have enough energy cards attached to it by the next turn to attack again. Since Arcanine only has the one move, you have no choice but to use Fire Spin every turn.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating. Even though this card requires some luck for it to be really good, I like the fact that it has a high hp, and a powerful attack that can knock most Pokemon out in a turn, every Pokemon out in two. Also this card's Ability is better than Amoonguss's from yesterday, because you can use Arcanine's Ability more than once and burn numerous attacking Pokemon. Since this card does require some luck I wouldn't put too many of these in a fire type deck.
Tomorrow's Pokemon Card:
So thanks for reading today's Pokemon card review of Arcanine from the Next Destinies set, stay tuned for tomorrow's card review of Moltres from the same set.
