Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Galvantula from the Steam Siege Pokemon Card Set. Galvantula is a stage 1, lightning and grass type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90. It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to metal type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Galvantula does not have an Ability but it does have two moves. The first move that this card has is called Double Thread, for one colorless energy card this move allows you to do 30 damage to 2 of your opponent's benched Pokemon. Galvantula's second move is called Electroweb and for one lightning type energy card does 30 damage, and it makes the defending Pokemon unable to retreat during their next turn.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Galvantula is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Joltik into play (I reviewed Joltik from this set yesterday) and then evolve Joltik into Galvantula. If you read yesterday's review of Joltik, you'll know that I thought it was not usable in the active Pokemon spot, mainly because of its extreme low HP, other than that, it had a free retreat cost and one move that required only one energy card to use. So knowing you can't use Joltik in the active Pokemon spot at all, Galvantula works well with that card, since if you have to start the game with Joltik, you can evolve it the second turn of the game and start attacking without adding energy to Galvantula. I like Galvantula quite a bit and it would work well in a spread attack type deck since Double Thread does 60 total damage for only 1 energy card towards your opponent's benched Pokemon. So if you're building a spread attack type deck, or just looking for a solid Stage 1 card to use, with quick attacks, I would recommend using a 1-1 line of this Pokemon family.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating. In my opinion, this is an above average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Steam Siege set. In my mind, there really aren't any negatives with this card, only positives. Outside of having just an average HP, this card has a low retreat cost, and two great moves, both quick on the attack and both doing above average damage. So, together with Joltik from this set, I would give this line a 3 out of 5 rating, it should definitely be considered for decks.
