Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Gastrodon from the Steam Siege Pokemon Card Set. Gastrodon is a stage 1, water type Pokemon card, with an hp of 110. It has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost. Gastrodon does not have an Ability but it does have two moves. The first move that this card has is called Sticky Shot, for one water energy card this move does 20 damage, plus it makes the defending Pokemon's attack cost and retreat one colorless energy card more during your opponent's next turn. Gastrodon's second move is called Water Pulse and for three water energy cards this move does 60 damage, plus it puts the defending Pokemon to sleep.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Gastrodon is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Shellos into play (I reviewed Shellos from this set yesterday) and then evolve Shellos into Gastrodon. If you read yesterday's review of Shellos, you'll know that I thought it was a slightly below average Basic Pokemon card overall. It had an above average HP and could attack for only one energy card, but the card was very limited, with only one move and a higher retreat cost than attack cost. So knowing this about Shellos and looking at this Gastrodon card, I could see using a 1-1 line of this Pokemon family in a water type deck. You could even start the game with Shellos in the active Pokemon spot, then evolve it the next turn and use Gastrodon's Sticky Shot move, making Gastrodon's already high HP, seem ever higher. Water Pulse is an average move, damage wise, but if you get this card into the active Pokemon spot early in the game and get the defending Pokemon to sleep, it will give you lots of time to set up your benched Pokemon.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating. In my opinion, this is a very solid Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Steam Siege set. If you're building a water type deck, I would definitely recommend this line for it. Both Pokemon in this line are quick on the attack, and this Gastrodon card makes it easier for you to set up your benched Pokemon. Together with Shellos, I would give these two Pokemon a 3 out of 5 rating.
