Talonflame -- Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Talonflame from the Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Set.  Talonflame is a Stage 2, Colorless type Pokemon card, with a HP of 130.  It has a x2 weakness to Lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to Lightning type Pokemon, and a free retreat cost.  This card does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move on this card is called Flame Charge, for one Colorless Energy card, this move does 30 damage, plus it allows you to search your deck for a Fire type Energy card and attach it to Talonflame.  Loop-the-Loop is Talonflame's second move, for two Colorless Energy cards, this move does 90 damage, however, you must move all Energy attached to Talonflame back into your hand.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Talonflame is a Stage 2 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Fletchling into play and then evolve it into Fletchling before you can evolve Fletchinder into Talonflame, both of those Pokemon are from this set and I've reviewed both of them the last two days.  If you've read my reviews of those cards you'll know that I thought both cards were below average overall.  Both Pokemon had below average HP and were under-powered, Fletchling required two Energy cards to do damage when attacking, and Fletchinder required a coin flip to do 40 damage per turn.  So knowing this about the first two Pokemon in this line and looking at this Talonflame card, the only way I would consider using this line in a deck at all is if you have other Pokemon that either retreat for free or you have a Pokemon with an Ability that allows Pokemon to move in and out of the Active Pokemon spot.  Ideally, you would set this entire line up on the Bench, if you're using two Basic Energy cards on Talonflame you would use Loop-the-Loop every two turns, retreating Talonflame after attacking each turn, otherwise, you could use one Colorless Energy card and do 90 damage every single turn with Loop-the-Loop without retreating, just re-using that same Special Energy card each turn.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an average Stage 2 Pokemon card from the Guardians Rising set.  On its own, this is a very good card, but taking into account that this is a Stage 2 Pokemon card and slow to set up, this card is average at best.  I like that it can do 90 damage a turn pretty quickly, but it does have a somewhat low HP for a Stage 2 Pokemon card.  Overall, this line gets a 2 out of 5 rating from me, both Fletchling and Fletchinder from this set are poor, meaning either set this line up on the Bench or don't use it at all.

Talonflame -- Steam Siege Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Talonflame from the Steam Siege Pokemon Card Set.  Talonflame is a stage 2, colorless type Pokemon card, with a HP of 130.  It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a free retreat cost.  Talonflame's Ability is called Gale Wings and says that if Talonflame is in your hand when you're setting up to play, you may put it face down as your active Pokemon.  Besides the Ability, Talonflame just has one move called Aero Blitz, for one colorless energy card this move does 40 damage, and allows you to search your deck for up to 2 cards and put them into your hand.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Gale Wings prevents you from having to use the first two Pokemon in this evolution line, this section of my post is really out the window.  Both Fletchling and Fletchinder from this set were below average cards, both having low HP, but otherwise solid.  If you're going to use this line in a deck at all, you'll only want to use 4 Talonflame, no other Pokemon from this line, that gives you something like a 40% chance of getting Talonflame when you draw cards to start the game, you can then put a Stage 2 Pokemon in the active Pokemon, attach one energy card to it, and then worry about setting up your benched Pokemon.  This is a very popular strategy in the metagame right now, because if you hit with Talonflame, you can do 40 damage a turn for one energy card, you can search your deck for two cards every turn, and when you're done with Talonflame you can retreat it for free, plus, Talonflame BREAK can also be used with this card to make it even better.  Albeit, if you're a more conservative player and want to avoid risk, playing Talonflame isn't a great choice, because if you don't get Talonflame to start, and even if you do, you have essentially wasted 3 or 4 spots in your deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion if used by itself without Fletchling and Fletchinder, this card has the potential to be amazing, but like I mentioned above, with less than a 50% chance at actually using this card if you have 4 in a deck, it is either boom or bust with this card.  As a whole, this line would get a 3 out of 5 rating from me, but again, I would not play this whole line, I would keep Talonflame by itself.

Talonflame -- Roaring Skies Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Talonflame from the Roaring Skies Pokemon Card Set.  Talonflame is a stage 2, fire type Pokemon card, with an hp of 130.  It has a x2 weakness to water type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a free retreat cost.  Talonflame does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Grand Loop, this move requires one colorless energy card to use and allows you to draw 3 cards and switch out Talonflame for one of your benched Pokemon.  Talonflame's second move is called Brave Bird, this move requires two energy cards to use and does 90 damage, however Talonflame does do 20 damage to itself.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Talonflame is a stage 2 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Fletchling into play and then evolve it into Fletchinder before you can evolve Fletchinder into Talonflame, both of those Pokemon are from this set, however I have only reviewed Fletchinder so far because Fletchling is a colorless type Pokemon and will be reviewed in a few weeks.  I thought Fletchinder was a below average Stage 1 Pokemon card, it only had one move, which was quite weak, and had a low HP, the only good thing about it was that it had a free retreat cost.  So knowing this about Fletchinder and looking at this Talonflame card, I would not recommend using this line in a deck.  I say this because Talonflame's HP is a tad low, and neither move it has is that great, Brave Bird does do well above average damage for the amount of energy cards required but it does do 20 damage to itself which will make Talonflame's already low HP seem even lower.  So unless you really like this Pokemon line, I would not recommend using it in a deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a below average Stage 2 Pokemon card from the Roaring Skies set.  Besides having a free retreat cost and the Ability to do 90 damage, this card isn't that great, it has a lower HP and does damage to itself when attacking.  Together with Fletchinder from this set, I can't give these two cards higher than a 2 out of 5 rating, they shouldn't be used.

Talonflame -- Phantom Forces Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Talonflame from the Phantom Forces Pokemon Card Set.  Talonflame is a stage 2, fire type Pokemon card, with an hp of 130.  It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Talonflame does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Acrobatics, this move requires one fire energy card and does 30 damage plus 30 more damage for each heads you get when flipping two coins.  Talonflame's second move is called Jet Shoot, this move requires three energy cards, two fire and one colorless, and does 120 damage, however if your opponent attacks Talonflame during their next turn, damage done to Talonflame is increased by 40.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Talonflame is a stage 2 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Fletchling into play and then evolve it into Fletchinder before you can evolve Fletchinder into Talonflame, both of those Pokemon are from this set, however I have only reviewed Fletchinder so far because Fletchling is a colorless type Pokemon and will be reviewed in a few weeks.  I thought Fletchinder was a slightly below average Stage 1 Pokemon card because it only had 80 HP, but other than that it was a good card.  So knowing this about Fletchinder, I could potentially see using Fletchinder in the active Pokemon for a turn or two, then evolving it in the active Pokemon spot to get more HP and to be able to do more damage, or just keeping the entire line on the bench until Talonflame has three energy cards on it.  Either way, I preferably would use Acrobatics most turns attaching Trick Coin as a tool card to Talonflame, that way you have a better chance at doing 90 damage a turn for only one energy card.  But I would make sure to have three energy cards on Talonflame in the case where you need to knock out a Pokemon in one turn, I would then use Jet Shoot and do 120 damage a turn.  I could definitely see myself using this card and this line in a deck and would include a 2-2-2 or 1-1-1 line in at least a dual type fire deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an above average Stage 2 Pokemon card from the Phantom Forces set.  I like that this card has a very low retreat cost and two moves, both moves able to do above average damage.  I would give this card an even better rating if it had a higher HP, but when the HP is a little lower for a Stage 2 card and Jet Shoot can increase damage by 40, you'll definitely have to use some Potion cards to keep this card alive.  But overall, I would definitely recommend using this line in a deck, even if Fletchling is average when I review it, you should definitely consider using this line in a deck.

Talonflame -- Pokemon X and Y Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Talonflame from the X and Y Pokemon Card Set.  Talonflame is a stage 2, fire type Pokemon card, with an hp of 130.  It has a x2 weakness to lightning type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a free retreat cost.  Talonflame does not have an Ability but it does have two moves, the first move that this card has is called Devastating Wind and for one colorless energy card this move makes your opponent shuffle their hand into their deck and makes them draw 4 new cards.  Talonflame's second move is called Flare Blitz, this move requires 2 fire energy cards and does 100 damage, however you have to discard all fire energy cards attached to Talonflame after using this move.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Talonflame is a stage 2 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Fletchling into play and then evolve it into Fletchinder before you can evolve Fletchinder into Talonflame, both of those Pokemon are from this set however Fletchling is a colorless type Pokemon so I haven't reviewed that card yet, but I have reviewed Fletchinder and it was a below average card, because Talonflame has a free retreat cost, you'll always want to set it up on the bench first.  I personally wouldn't use this line at all in a deck, but because Talonflame does have a free retreat cost and can do 100 damage for two energy cards, you can use a 1-1-1 line of Fletchling, Fletchinder, and Talonflame, set up Talonflame on the bench, put two energy cards on it, then use Flare Blitz one turn and retreat it the next turn, and then put two more energy cards on it on the bench.  Other than that there isn't much strategy around this card and if you don't like having to attach energy card after energy card to Pokemon, definitely don't use this card in your deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an average stage 2 Pokemon card from the X and Y set.  I like its free retreat cost and the fact it can do 100 damage for only two energy cards.  This card is only average though because neither move it has is that great considering not just damage, and at 130 hp, it has a pretty low hp for a stage 2 card.  Since I haven't reviewed Fletchling yet, I will give the 2nd two evolutions in this line a 2 out of 5 rating, I probably wouldn't use them in a deck.
