Heracross -- Burning Shadows Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Heracross from the Burning Shadows Pokemon Card Set.  Heracross is a Basic, Grass type Pokemon card with a HP of 110.  Heracross has a x2 weakness to Fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two Colorless Energy card retreat cost.  Guts is the name of Heracross' Ability, it says that if this Pokemon is going to be knocked out from damage, flip a coin, if you get a heads, this Pokemon is not knocked out, and its remaining HP is 10.  Besides the Ability, this card has just one move called Pitch, for two Grass Energy cards, this move does 50 damage, plus, your opponent must switch their Active Pokemon with one of their Benched Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Heracross is a Basic Pokemon card with no evolution forms, you'll only have to use this card in a deck if you want to use Heracross.  So knowing this, if you're building a mainly Grass type deck and a deck that can take advantage of spreading damage around, this Heracross may be one to include in your deck.  For example, you could use Pitch several turns, get 50 damage on several of your opponent's Pokemon, then use Espeon EX from the BREAKpoint set and devolve all of your opponent's Pokemon, potentially knocking out several Pokemon at once.  Although the Ability on this card can't really be used to help your other Pokemon or help set up your deck, it may save you the game if you flip a heads when you're about to be knocked out.  So essentially, if you need a solid attacker for a Grass type deck, a Basic Pokemon that can spread damage around and one that has a high HP, this is card for your deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an above average Basic Pokemon card from the Burning Shadows set.  Like I mentioned above, this card can certainly work in Grass type decks.  I really like the high HP on this card and the fact it can do 50 damage for two Energy cards, plus, spread damage around by moving your opponent's Active Pokemon in and out.  This card would be much better if you could choose which Pokemon your opponent put in the Active Pokemon spot, but even without that, it can certainly be a nice way to set up your opponent's Pokemon to be knocked out all at once later in the game.

Heracross EX -- Furious Fists Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Heracross EX and Heracross EX Full Art from the Furious Fists Pokemon Card Set.  Heracross EX is a basic, EX, grass type Pokemon card with an hp of 170. It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Heracross does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Guard Press, this move requires two energy cards to use, one each of grass and colorless, and does 40 damage, plus if Heracross is attacked during its next turn, any damage done to Heracross is reduced by 20.  Heracross's second move is called Giga Power, this move requires three energy cards, two grass and one colorless, and does 80 damage, plus you can do 40 more damage, but if you choose to do this, Heracross does 20 damage to itself.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, because Heracross EX is a basic Pokemon card you won't need to use any other cards with this card.  But remember, because this card is an EX card, if this card is knocked out, two prize cards are taken instead of one.  However, Heracross does have a mega evolution you could use from this set and I will be reviewing that card tomorrow, so this strategy below will act like Heracross EX does not have an evolution.  So knowing this, on its own, I could see using one of these cards in a grass type deck just to put some power into your deck.  You could easily set this card up on the bench, put three energy cards on it, then put it into the active Pokemon spot and use Giga Power every turn.  I would always try and do 120 damage a turn when it makes sense, for example you'd knock out the defending Pokemon, or Heracross is about to be knocked out and you need to do as much damage as possible before leaving the active Pokemon spot.  Otherwise, if the defending Pokemon has more than 120 HP but less than 170 HP, I would just do 80 damage with Giga Power and knock that Pokemon out in two turns.  The only time I would use Guard Press is when Heracross only has two energy cards on it.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an above average EX Pokemon card from the Furious Fists set.  I really like how powerful this card is and how little energy it needs to use to do 120 damage a turn.  The only bad thing about this card is that its HP is a bit lower, but if you have to you can use Guard Press to get the damage reduced from your opponent's attacks.  So overall, if you're looking for a very powerful grass type card to put into your deck, I would highly recommend using this one.

Heracross -- Boundaries Crossed Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Heracross from the Boundaries Crossed Pokemon Card Set.  Heracross is a basic, grass type Pokemon card, with an hp of 100.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Heracross does not have an Ability, but it does have two moves.  Its first move is called Horn Attack and for one grass energy card this move does 20 damage.  Heracross's second move is called Giga Horn and for three energy cards, two grass and one colorless, this move does 80 damage, however if you get two tails when you flip two coins, this move does not do anything.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since this is a basic Pokemon card with no evolutions, you only need to include this card in the deck if you want to use it.  I would suggest using Heracross as a starter Pokemon in a grass type deck.  I would use 1 in a deck, and try and get that card into the active Pokemon spot to start the game, that way during your first turn you can do 20 damage using Horn Attack and two turns later you can do 80 damage.  So to summarize, move this card into your active Pokemon spot right away, and start attaching energy cards to it until you get three on it.  Once you have three, battle for as long as you can and then either retreat Heracross or let it get knocked out.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is an above average basic Pokemon card from the Boundaries Crossed Pokemon card set.  This card has an above average hp, and two great moves.  I like how this card is both quick (i.e. Horn Attack) and can do a good amount of damage (i.e. Giga Horn) this card is great overall, and would make a great starter Pokemon card in a deck, much better than yesterday's Scyther card at that.
