Gourgeist -- Phantom Forces Pokemon Card Review

Gourgeist Phantom Forces Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Gourgeist from the Phantom Forces Pokemon Card Set.  Gourgeist is a stage 1, psychic type Pokemon card, with an hp of 100.  It has a x2 weakness to darkness type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Gourgeist's Ability is called Gourgantic and says that if this card has any grass energy cards attached to it, its HP is 200 instead of 100.  Besides the Ability, Gourgeist just has one move which is called Horror Note, this move requires three energy cards, two colorless and one psychic, and does 10 damage times the number cards in your hand.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Gourgeist is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Pumpkaboo into play (I reviewed Pumpkaboo from this set yesterday) and then evolve Pumpkaboo into Gourgeist.  If you read yesterday's review of Pumpkaboo, you'll know that I thought that card was a below average Basic Pokemon card, even though the card did have two moves, I still gave it a below average rating because it required three energy cards to do its best move but then that move may end up doing zero damage every single turn if you don't have any Pokemon in your discard pile with Night March.  So knowing this about Pumpkaboo and looking at this Gourgeist card, first off, if you're building a dual type deck of grass and psychic type Pokemon, this card is a no brainer, you can use its Ability to get its HP up to 200.  I would definitely consider using this card in your deck, I would make sure to include some trainer cards in my deck to draw three cards, that way you could have 9 or more cards in your hand at one time and Horror Note could do 90 damage a turn.  So this card is extremely powerful if you set it up right.  Also, it is a nice way to compliment a deck using the Night March attacks.  If you aren't using many Pokemon with Night March, I would use a 1-1 line of these two Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an above average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Phantom Forces set.  I like how this card has an above average to way above average HP depending on if you use the Ability or not.  Plus, the only move that this card has can do well above average damage for only three energy cards.  So this card has all above average everything, HP, Ability, and move.  Together with Pumpkaboo from this set, I would give these two cards a 3 out of 5 rating, they are solid together.

Gourgeist -- Pokemon X and Y Card Review

Gourgeist Pokemon X and Y Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Gourgeist from the Pokemon XY Card Set.  Gourgeist is a stage 1, psychic type Pokemon card, with an hp of 100.  It has a x2 weakness to darkness type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a two colorless energy retreat cost.  Gourgeist does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Eerie Voice, this move requires one psychic energy card and allows you to put 2 damage counters on each of your opponent's Pokemon.  Gourgeist's second move is called Spirit Scream, this move requires two psychic energy cards and allows you to put damage counters on each active Pokemon, yours and your opponent's, until they each have 10 hp left on them.

If you read yesterday's review, you'll know that I thought Pumpkaboo was a very poor basic Pokemon card especially since its retreat cost was higher than the cost of its only attack which also doesn't do any damage.  Because Pumpkaboo isn't very good, you'll definitely want to evolve into Gourgeist on the bench.  All you need is one energy card on Gourgeist before moving it to the active Pokemon spot.  While in that spot, you can use Eerie Voice every turn unless you're facing a really high hp Pokemon like a Mega Evolution EX, then you should use Spirit Scream and almost knock it out.  I would definitely recommend using this card in not only psychic type decks but decks that spread damage around.  I would use a 2-2 line of Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 5 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an excellent stage 1 Pokemon card.  I really like everything about this card, it has an above average hp, and two great moves that not only do a lot of damage but are fast to use.  You should definitely include this in spread damage type decks and this Pokemon family would make a great addition to psychic type decks as well.  I see the Gourgeist card as a great way to prevent and even take down EX and Mega EX cards.  Overall, I would give this line a 4 out of 5 rating, even though Pumpkaboo was a 1 individually, I think overall this Pokemon family is awesome!
