Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Alolan Graveler from the Guardians Rising Pokemon Card set. Alolan Graveler is a Stage 1, Lightning type Pokemon card, with a HP of 110. It has a x2 weakness to Fighting type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to Metal type Pokemon, and a four Colorless Energy card retreat cost. Alolan Graveler does not have an Ability but it does have two moves. The first move on this card is called Thunder Punch, for three Energy cards, one Lightning and two Colorless, this move does 50 damage plus 20 more damage if you get a heads when flipping a coin, but if you get a tails when flipping a coin, Alolan Graveler does 20 damage to itself. This card's second move is called Electrobullet, for four Energy cards, three Lightning and one Colorless, this move does 80 damage, plus it does 20 damage to one of your opponent's Benched Pokemon.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Alolan Graveler is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Alolan Geodude into play (I reviewed Alolan Geodude from this set yesterday) and then evolve Alolan Geodude into Alolan Graveler. Alolan Geodude does have a Stage 2 evolution in Alolan Golem, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Alolan Graveler is the final evolution in this line. So if you read my review of Alolan Geodude, you'll know that I thought it was a well below average Basic Pokemon card overall. Although it had a solid HP and two moves, neither move was very good and it was very slow to do damage when attacking. Knowing this about Geodude and looking at this card, the only reason to use this line in a deck is if you're building a spread attack type deck and have plenty of time to set up your Benched Pokemon. If this is the case for your deck, you could put four Energy cards on Alolan Graveler on the Bench and when in the Active Pokemon spot use Electrobullet every turn. Thunder Punch on this card does below average damage normally and can even damage Graveler, so it isn't worth using. Plus, like I mentioned, unless you're building a very specific deck, I would not recommend using this card or line in a deck.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating. In my opinion this is a below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Guardians Rising set. Although this card has a great HP and two moves that both do damage, I am still giving this card a below average rating, it is too slow on the attack, has a high retreat cost, and just isn't worth using in a deck without Alolan Golem. Together with Alolan Geodude from this set, I would give these two cards a 1 out of 5 rating, I would pass on them.
