Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Alolan Dugtrio from the Sun and Moon Pokemon Card Set. Alolan Dugtrio is a Stage 1, Metal type Pokemon card, with a HP of 100. It has a x2 weakness to Fire type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to Psychic type Pokemon, and a two Colorless Energy card retreat cost. Alolan Dugtrio's Ability is called Tangling Hair, it makes the opponent's Active Pokemon's retreat cost one Colorless Energy card higher. Besides the Ability, Alolan Dugtrio just has one move called Dig Under, for three Colorless Energy cards, this move does 50 damage to one of your opponent's Pokemon.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Alolan Dugtrio is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Alolan Diglett into play (I reviewed Alolan Diglett from this set yesterday) and then evolve Alolan Diglett into Alolan Dugtrio. If you read yesterday's review of Alolan Diglett, you'll know that I thought it was a below average Basic Pokemon card overall. It had a below average HP, but did have two moves, neither of which was particularly strong, but at least it had some possibilities if need be. So knowing this about Alolan Diglett and looking at this Alolan Dugtrio card, the only reason I would use this line in a deck would be to use Alolan Dugtrio's Ability from the Bench. Although one Colorless Energy card may not seem like much for adding to the retreat cost, if a deck is predicated on free retreat cost, this Ability could throw a big wrench into their plans. Other than Alolan Dugtrio's Ability, although Dig Under does below average damage, you could use a Double Colorless Energy card with it and do 50 damage for two Energy cards plus, if used in a spread attack type deck, it could knock out one of your opponent's Benched Pokemon in one move.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating. In my opinion, this is an average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Sun and Moon set. Although this card is a bit under-powered and only has one move, because of how good Alolan Dugtrio's Ability is, and the fact you can use this card from the Bench, I am giving this card an average rating overall. Combined with Alolan Diglett, I would give these two cards a 2 out of 5 rating, if you can't utilize Alolan Dugtrio's Ability, I would look elsewhere for some Metal type Pokemon to use for your deck.
