Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Caterpie from the Evolutions set. This is the first card that I'm reviewing from the Evolutions set, Evolutions is a Base Set reprint set, meaning, this set mainly includes cards originally printed in Base Set, but the cards have been updated, having higher HP and better damage when attacking, this set also includes reprints from sets that I've already reviewed, like XY, so I will be skipping those cards in this set. Caterpie is a basic, grass type Pokemon card with a HP of 40. It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Caterpie does not have an Ability and it only has one move called String Shot, for one grass energy card this move does 10 damage, plus it paralyzes the defending Pokemon if you get a heads when flipping a coin.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Caterpie is a basic Pokemon card with a Stage 1 evolution in Metapod, and a Stage 2 evolution in Butterfree (which isn't in this set), you'll more than likely want to use this card with its full evolution line, however, since I haven't reviewed Metapod yet, I will be considering this card on its own. On its own, I can't recommend using this card in a deck, all because of its low HP, if this card had an average HP, like one of 60, I could see using this card as a starter type Pokemon since it could attack for only one energy and potentially paralyze the defending Pokemon every turn, giving you extra time to set up your own Pokemon. So unless you can increase Caterpie's HP, do not use this card in a deck, and if you're using it with Caterpie's evolution forms, keep it on the bench.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating. In my opinion, this is a below average Basic Pokemon card from the Evolutions Pokemon card set. Like I mentioned in the strategy section of this post, because of this card's low HP, it is really not usable on its own in a deck. Outside of starting the game with this card in the active Pokemon spot, this card is an easy one hit knockout target. So look elsewhere if looking for grass type Pokemon to use in your deck.
