Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Magneton from the BREAKthrough Pokemon Card set. Magneton is a stage 1, lightning type Pokemon card, with an hp of 80. It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to metal type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Magneton does not have an Ability but it does have two moves. The first move that this card has is called Static Shock, for one lightning energy card this move paralyzes the defending Pokemon if you get a heads when flipping a coin. Magneton's second move is called Electro Ball, for three energy cards, two colorless and one lightning, this move does 70 damage, however you must discard an energy attached to Magneton after using.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Magneton is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Magnemite into play (I reviewed Magnemite from this set yesterday) and then evolve Magnemite into Magneton. Magneton does have a Stage 2 evolution in Magnezone, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Magneton is the final evolution in this line. So if you read my reviews of both Magnemite cards from this set you'll know that I thought both cards were pretty similar and the card I reviewed yesterday, number 52 was just a tiny bit better since it could attack for one energy card as opposed to two on the first Magnemite card. But regardless, I think the best method if you want to use Magnemite and Magneton is to evolve this line on the bench. So looking at this specific Magneton card, the only reason to use this card is to do 70 damage a turn with Electro Ball, but because this move requires three energy cards and Magnemite is not very good and this Magneton has a low HP, I cannot recommend using this line in a deck.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating. In my opinion this is a below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the BREAKthrough set. Unfortunately other than having two moves and a low retreat cost, there isn't much to like about this card. One of the Magneton's moves is based off of a coin flip, and the other move does do above average damage but makes you discard an energy card. So unless you need to use this line for Magnezone, please avoid it, I cannot give the first two Pokemon in this line less than a 2 out of 5 rating.
