Grotle -- Plasma Storm Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Grotle from the Plasma Storm Pokemon Card Set.  Grotle is a stage 1, grass type Pokemon card, with an hp of 100.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to water type Pokemon, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Grotle does not have an Ability and it only has one move.  Its only move is called Knock Away, this move requires three energy cards, two colorless and one grass, and does 40 damage plus 20 more damage if you get a heads when you flip a coin.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Grotle is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Turtwig into play (I reviewed Turtwig from this set yesterday) and then evolve Turtwig into Grotle.  Grotle does have a stage 2 evolution in Torterra that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Grotle is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read yesterday's review, you'll know that I thought Turtwig was a below average basic Pokemon card that I would not use in a deck, so this card will have to be above average before I would consider using this Pokemon card in a deck.  Right off the bat, I would recommend not using Grotle in a deck with only Turtwig.  I say this because even though Grotle has a high hp, it has only one move that is slow and below average damage wise and its retreat cost is way too high for my liking.  However, if you choose to use this Pokemon in your deck, I would use a 1-1 or 2-1 line of Turtwig and Grotle in a mostly grass deck.  Because Grotle is so slow I would keep Grotle on the bench and put three energy cards on it, then move it into the active Pokemon spot and hope to flip some heads every turn so I can do average damage instead of below average damage.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 1 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a very below average stage 1 Pokemon card. Like I mentioned above, the only thing this card has going for it is its hp which is slightly above average.  Other than that, Grotle is way too slow and cannot do much damage at a time.  So I would definitely stay away from this card at all costs...of course if you plan on using Torterra you don't have much of a choice.
