Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Turtwig from the Plasma Storm Pokemon Card Set. This is the first Plasma Storm card I have reviewed and in the next few months I'll be reviewing each and every Pokemon from this set. Turtwig is a basic, grass type Pokemon card with an hp of 70. It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to water type Pokemon, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost. Turtwig does not have an Ability, but it does have two moves. Turtwig's first move is called Nap, this move requires one colorless energy card and heals 20 damage from Turtwig. Turtwig's second move is called Razor Leaf, this move requires three energy cards, two colorless and one grass, and does 30 damage.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Turtwig is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Grotle and a stage 2 evolution in Torterra, which I'll be reviewing the next two days, you'll more than likely want to use those cards with this Pokemon. However, since I haven't reviewed those cards yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolutions. So on its own, I would not suggest using Turtwig. I say this because even though Turtwig has an above average hp, it is too slow for my liking and cannot do enough damage with a move that requires three energy cards. As a starter Pokemon this card wouldn't be useful because it can't attack for three turns, at least do damage that is, and if you use Nap each turn until you get three energy cards, doing 30 damage a turn with Razor Leaf won't do much against a stage 1 or a stage 2 Pokemon. If you do choose to use this card in your deck, your best bet will be to get three energy cards on this card on your bench and then move it to the active Pokemon spot, using Razor Leaf every turn unless you need to remove some damage then using Nap instead. I would not use this card on its own in a deck, but if you choose to, make sure to use no more than 1.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating. In my opinion, this is a below average basic Pokemon card. This card does have a high hp and two moves, but that is about it, I don't like either of Turtwig's moves and with a retreat cost of 2 energy cards you can find a better basic Pokemon card to use out there than this card.
