Blissey -- Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Review

Blissey Guardians Rising Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Blissey from the Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Set.  Blissey is a Stage 1, Colorless type Pokemon card, with a HP of 160. It has a x2 weakness to Fighting type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a four Colorless Energy card retreat cost.  Blissey's Ability is called Fresh Egg and says that when you play Blissey from your hand to evolve one of your Chansey cards in play, you may heal 80 damage from your Active Pokemon.  Besides the Ability, Blissey has just one move called Double-Edge, for four Colorless Energy, this move does 160 damage, however the move also does 80 damage to Blissey.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Blissey is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Chansey into play (I reviewed Chansey from this set yesterday) and then evolve Chansey into Blissey.  If you read yesterday's review of Chansey, you'll know that I thought it was a well below average Basic Pokemon overall.  Despite having a good HP and two moves, the card was slow on the attack when trying to do damage, and its quicker move, requiring two Energy cards, required a coin flip to even be able to heal damage from your own Pokemon.  Knowing this about Chansey and looking at this Blissey card, the main reason you'd want to use this line in a deck is for Blissey's Ability, essentially giving your Active Pokemon a max potion every time Chansey is evolved.  Other than Blissey's Ability, there is zero reason to use this card or line in a deck, especially with its extremely high retreat cost.  It would be best to use only a 1-1 line of this Pokemon family, or use only 1 Chansey and several Blissey and then use a Trainer or another Pokemon's Ability to either devolve Chansey or return the entire line to your hand, giving you multiple opportunities to evolve Chansey and heal damage from your Active Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Guardians Rising set.  Similar to Chansey, this card has a high HP, and an okay move that can do major damage, but unfortunately since this card is so slow on the attack and does damage to itself when attacking, there is no reason to ever use this card in the Active Pokemon spot.  Like I mentioned above, the only reason to use this line at all in a deck is for Blissey's Ability, because of this, this entire line only gets a 1 out of 5 rating from me, neither card is great, and neither card you'll want to use anywhere but the Bench.

Chansey -- Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Review

Chansey Guardians Rising Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Chansey from the Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Set.  Chansey is a Basic, Colorless type Pokemon card with a HP of 110.  It has a x2 weakness to Fighting type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two Colorless Energy card retreat cost.  Chansey does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Bind Wound, for two Colorless Energy cards, this move heals 30 damage from one of your Pokemon, if you get a heads when flipping a coin.  Hammer In is the name of the second move on this card, for four Colorless Energy cards, this move does 80 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Chansey is a Basic Pokemon card with a Stage 1 evolution in Blissey, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution.  So, on its own, the one positive on this card is that it can fit into any type deck, since it is a Colorless type card.  With that being said, unless you're desperate for a way to heal damage from your own Pokemon, and don't want to use Trainer cards in your deck, this card could be worth considering.  Other than that, this card is too slow on the attack to do only 80 damage, and in my opinion, the card really isn't worth using at all, since it is either slow to do damage when attacking, or has only a 50% chance of working when using Chansey's first move.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 1 out of 5 rating.  So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Blissey, this is a very poor Basic Pokemon card.  Despite having two moves, and an above average HP, this card just isn't good.  Although it can do 80 damage per turn, there is no reason to put four Energy cards on a card that only has 110 HP, and this card may not be able to heal damage at all when using Bind Wound, since it requires a coin flip.  So unless you want to use Blissey in your deck, I would pass on this card.

Kommo-o GX -- Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Review

Kommo-o GX Guardians Rising Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Kommo-o GX from the Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Set.  Kommo-o GX is a Stage 2, Dragon type Pokemon card, with a HP of 240.  It has a x2 weakness to Fairy type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two Colorless Energy card retreat cost.  Kommo-o GX does not have an Ability but it does have three total moves, two regular moves and one GX move.  The first move on this card is called Adamantine Press, for one Colorless Energy card, this move does 30 damage, and during your opponent's next turn, Kommo-o GX takes 30 less damage from attacks.  Shred is the second move on this card, for four Energy cards, one each of Lightning and Fighting, and two Colorless, this move does 130 damage, plus this attack isn't affected by any effects on your opponent's Active Pokemon.  The GX move on this card is called Ultra Uppercut GX, for four Energy cards, one each of Lightning and Fighting, and two Colorless, this move does 240 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, first off, the way a Pokemon GX works is that it is used instead of a regular Kommo-o card, so if you have Hakamo-o in play, you evolve that Pokemon directly into Kommo-o GX.  In play, only one GX move can be used during the entire game, and once a Pokemon GX is knocked out, two prize cards are taken instead of one.  Since Kommo-o GX is a Stage 2 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Jangmo-o into play and then evolve it into Hakamo-o before you can evolve Hakamo-o into Kommo-o GX, both of those Pokemon are from this set and I've reviewed both of them in the past.  If you've read my reviews of those cards you'll know that I thought both cards were below average overall.  My thoughts on both cards were the same, if you weren't using them in a dual type Lightning and Fighting type deck, they weren't worth using.  The same can be said about this Kommo-o GX card, especially if you're looking to do major damage each turn, since both of this card's better move require one each of Lightning and Fighting type Energy cards.  Ideally, this entire line should be set up on the Bench, and you'll want to use a 1-1-1 line of this Pokemon family.  Ultra Uppercut GX should knock out almost all Pokemon in one move, so it is worth using as a GX move, other than that, 130 damage for four Energy cards is above average, but it is just the time it takes to set up this line that should be considered when building a deck, this line is slow to attack and requires lots of Energy cards.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this an average Stage 2, Pokemon GX card from the Guardians Rising set.  Like I mentioned above, if you're building a Lightning and Fighting type deck, this line fits in perfectly, otherwise, there is little reason trying to fit this card into a deck.  Together with Jangmo-o and Hakamo-o from this set, I would give this entire line a 2 out of 5 rating, but if used in a dual type deck, it is solid at the very least.

Hakamo-o -- Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Review

Hakamo-o Guardians Rising Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Hakamo-o from the Guardians Rising Pokemon Card set.  Hakamo-o is a Stage 1, Dragon type Pokemon card, with a HP of 90.  It has a x2 weakness to Fairy type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two Colorless Energy card retreat cost.  Hakamo-o does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move on this card is called Headbutt, for one Colorless Energy card this move does 30 damage.  The second move on this card is called Dragon Claw, for three Energy cards, one each of Lightning, Fighting, and Colorless, this move does 80 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Hakamo-o is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Jangmo-o into play (I reviewed Jangmo-o from this set yesterday) and then evolve Jangmo-o into Hakamo-o.  Jangmo-o does have a Stage 2 evolution in Kommo-o GX, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Hakamo-o is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read my review of Jangmo-o, you'll know that I thought it was a below average Basic Pokemon card overall.  The card did have a solid HP, move, and Ability, but the card's move required two distinct types of Energy, making it slow on the Attack, and its Ability only affected Jangmo-o, it couldn't help the rest of your deck.  So knowing this about Jangmo-o and looking at this Hakamo-o card, this card is very similar in that it is decent overall, with a good HP, and two solid moves, but because this card's Dragon Claw move requires two distinct Energy types, this Pokemon would only work in a dual type deck of Fighting and Lightning type Pokemon.  Both moves on this card are good and do a good amount of damage, plus this card has a quick attack, requiring only one Energy to do 30 damage, but I still don't think this is enough to want to use this line without Kommo-o GX in a deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Guardians Rising set.  Like I mentioned above, this card is pretty solid overall and even better when used in a dual type deck of Fighting and Lightning type Pokemon.  Although not as effective in other type decks, this card can be used in the Active Pokemon spot while trying to get to Kommo-o GX.  Together with Jangmo-o from this set, I would give these two cards a 2 out of 5 rating, unless you're building a Fighting and Lightning type deck, look elsewhere.
