Boldore -- Sun and Moon Pokemon Card Review

Boldore Sun and Moon Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Boldore from the Sun and Moon Pokemon Card set.  Boldore is a Stage 1, Fighting type Pokemon card, with a HP of 110.  It has a x2 weakness to Grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a four Colorless Energy card retreat cost.  Boldore does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Headbutt, for two Energy cards, one each of Fighting and Colorless, this move does 30 damage.  Boldore's second move is called Rock Hurl, for three Energy cards, two Colorless and one Fighting, this move does 50 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Boldore is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Roggenrola into play (I reviewed Roggenrola from this set yesterday) and then evolve Roggenrola into Boldore.  Roggenrola does have a Stage 2 evolution in Gigalith, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Boldore is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read my review of Roggenrola, you'll know that I thought it was a below average Basic Pokemon overall.  Similar to this Boldore card, Roggenrola had an above average HP, but a high retreat cost, plus only an average move.  So knowing this about Roggenrola and looking at this Boldore card, I would not recommend using either of these Pokemon in a deck without Gigalith.  The main reason for not wanting to use Boldore would be its extremely high retreat cost, after that it would be the fact it is slow on the attack, and neither move it has is above average.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Sun and Moon set.  This card does have an above average HP and two moves, but neither move is very good, and Boldore has a much higher retreat cost than attack cost.  So when looking at both Roggenrola and Boldore from this set, I would give the two Pokemon a 1 out of 5 rating, pass on this line.

Boldore -- Phantom Forces Pokemon Card Review

Boldore Phantom Forces Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Boldore from the Phantom Forces Pokemon Card set.  Boldore is a stage 1, fighting type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90.  It has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Boldore does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Core Heal, for one fighting energy card, you can choose to discard a fighting type energy attached to Boldore, if you do, it heals 50 damage from it.  Boldore's second move is called Power Gem, this move requires three fighting type energy cards and does 60 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Boldore is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Roggenrola into play (I reviewed Roggenrola from this set yesterday) and then evolve Roggenrola into Boldore.  Boldore does have a stage 2 evolution in Gigalith that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Boldore is the final evolution in this line.  So if you read yesterday's review of Roggenrola, you'll know that I thought that card was a below average Basic Pokemon card, even though the card could do 30 damage a turn and had a good HP, on its own I did not recommend it because it had such a high retreat cost.  So knowing this about Roggenrola and looking at this Boldore card, this card is pretty similar in that it can do a fair amount of damage, but it is slow to attack and requires quite a few energy cards to retreat.  I could see myself potentially using a 1-1 line of Roggenrola and Boldore in a deck, but would still wait to see what Gigalith is like and try and use that Pokemon too.  If you choose to use this line, you can move Roggenrola into the active Pokemon spot immediately and get two energy cards on it and do 20 damage a turn then evolve it into Boldore and do 60 damage turn.  Unless you plan on using Boldore long term in the active Pokemon spot, I probably wouldn't use Power Gem.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Phantom Forces set.  This card has an average HP, two decent moves, but a high retreat cost.  Overall this card is average and could easily be used in a deck but I would probably pass on it.  Considering but Roggenrola and Boldore together, I still can't give the two a better than 2 out of 5 rating, hopefully Gigalith tomorrow changes the overall rating of this line.

Boldore -- Dragons Exalted Pokemon Card Review

Boldore Dragons Exalted Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Boldore from the Dragons Exalted Pokemon Card Set.  Boldore is a stage 1, fighting type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90.  It has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Boldore does not have an Ability but it does have two moves, the first move is called Rock Cannon which requires one fighting energy card and does 30 damage times the number of heads you get in a row, if you flip a tails on the first turn this move does nothing.  Boldore's second move is called Earthquake, this move requires three energy cards, two colorless and one fighting, and does 60 damage, however it does do 10 damage to each your own benched Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Boldore has a stage 2 evolution in Gigalith, I would suggest evolving Roggenrola into Boldore and then Boldore into Gigalith if possible.  But if you have to move Boldore into the active Pokemon spot before evolving it into Gigalith, I would try and use Earthquake every turn even though it does do damage to your own benched Pokemon.  But as long as you evolve Boldore into Gigalith, the more damage you have on your benched Pokemon the better Gigalith will be.  So I would hope to have a pretty full bench when I put Boldore into the active Pokemon spot.  The only time I would use Rock Cannon is if by using Earthquake I would knock out one of my own Pokemon or if I didn't have three energy cards attached to Boldore.  I still wouldn't use Roggenrola or Boldore without using Gigalith in a deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a below average, stage 1 Pokemon card.  The reason I think it is below average is because both of its moves aren't that great.  The first move, Rock Cannon may end up doing no damage at all, and Earthquake does average damage to the defending Pokemon, but does damage to your own Pokemon which makes this move below average.  One thing I really don't like about this card is that if you want to guarantee damage to your opponent's active Pokemon when attacking you have to use Earthquake which in turn will always do damage to your own Pokemon and potentially knock them out.

Boldore #52/98 -- Emerging Powers Pokemon Card Review

Boldore #52/98 Emerging Powers Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Boldore from the Emerging Powers Pokemon Card Set.  This is the second of two consecutive Boldore cards I'll be reviewing from this set.  Boldore is a stage 1, fighting type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90.  It has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Boldore doesn't have an Ability but it does have two moves, the first move is called Headbutt and for two colorless energy cards it does 30 damage.  Boldore's second move is called Hard Crash which takes three energy cards, two colorless and one fighing and does 60 damage plus 20 more damage if you get a heads when you flip a coin, otherwise this move does 60 damage to the defending Pokemon and 20 damage to Boldore.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since this is a stage 1 Pokemon card that has a stage 2 evolution in Gigalith, I would recommend keeping Boldore on the bench and evolving it into Gigalith before putting it into play, I would do this because Gigalith can do much more damage than Boldore and it has a higher hp.  There is one Gigalith card in this set, and I've reviewed that card on my blog previously.  If you have to put Boldore into play, I would recommend using Hard Crash every turn since it can do 60 damage instead of 30 damage with Headbutt, however if you can knock the defending Pokemon out with 30 damage or less, make sure to use Headbutt because with Hard Crash you may end up doing damage to yourself when you don't need to.  But like I said earlier, I would keep this card on the bench until I can evolve it into Gigalith.  Since Gigalith is so powerful, I would recommend using a 4-3-2 line of Roggenrola, Boldore, and Gigalith, and basing a fighting type deck around this Pokemon line.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  This card is almost identical to the other Boldore card from this set, same hp, same retreat cost, and quite similar moves, this card is a bit quicker but may end up damaging itself or do the same amount of damage as yesterday's card.  Because these two cards are so similar, I would probably use 2 of yesterday's card and 1 of today's card in a deck.

Boldore #51/98 -- Emerging Powers Pokemon Card Review

Boldore #51/98 Emerging Powers Pokemon Card
Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Boldore from the Emerging Powers Pokemon Card Set.  This is the first of two consecutive Boldore cards I'll be reviewing from this set.  Boldore is a stage 1, fighting type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90.  It has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a three colorless energy card retreat cost.  Boldore doesn't have an Ability but it does have two moves, the first move is called Smack Down and for two energy cards, one each of fighting and colorless, it does 20 damage plus 60 more damage if the defending Pokemon has fighting as their resistance.  Boldore's second move is called Power Gem and for four energy cards, two each of colorless and fighting it does 80 damage.

If you have to put Boldore into play, I would recommend using Power Gem every turn because it does 80 damage and will knock out almost all Pokemon in two turns or less.  The only thing with this move is that it requires four energy cards so it will take awhile to get that much energy on Boldore, in the mean time if Boldore is in the active Pokemon spot and you don't have four energy cards on it, you'll have no choice but to use Smack Down.  I would probably get four energy cards on Boldore on the bench, four fighting energy cards that is, then evolve it into Gigalith before putting it into the active Pokemon spot, since Gigalith can do 120 damage per turn for four energy cards.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  This is an average stage 1 Pokemon card in my opinion.  It has a good hp, and can do a good amount of damage, but the card is slow and requires a ton of energy to retreat, I would mainly use this card as a way to use Gigalith in my deck.
