Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Helioptile from the Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Set. Helioptile is a Basic, Lightning type Pokemon card with a HP of 60. It has a x2 weakness to Fighting type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to Metal type Pokemon, and a one Colorless Energy card retreat cost. Helioptile does not have an Ability and it only has one move. The only move on this card is called Thunder Shock, for one Lightning Energy card this move does 10 damage, plus, if you get a heads when flipping a coin, the defending Pokemon is Paralyzed.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Helioptile is a Basic Pokemon card with a Stage 1 evolution in Heliolisk, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon. However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution. So, on its own, this card could be used as a starter type Pokemon in a Lightning type deck since it can attack for only one Energy card and it can prevent your opponent from attacking, therefore giving you more time to set up your Benched Pokemon. Unfortunately this card is very limited, so it won't work well later in games. Because of this fact, I could see maybe using 1 or 2 of these cards in a deck on their own without Heliolisk.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating. So in my opinion, on its own, without considering Heliolisk, this is an average Basic Pokemon card overall. Other than being limited by having just one move, this card is very average overall, with a solid HP, low retreat cost, and a quick move that also inflicts a Special Condition. Although this card won't change any games, it is a decent one to consider when deck building.
