Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Alolan Golem from the Guardians Rising Pokemon Card Set. Alolan Golem is a Stage 2, Lightning type Pokemon card, with a HP of 160. It has a x2 weakness to Fighting type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to Metal type Pokemon, and a four Colorless Energy card retreat cost. This card does not have an Ability but it does have two moves. The first move on this card is called Electromagnetic Rock Wrecker, for three Energy cards, one Lightning and two Colorless, this move does 80 damage times the number of heads you get when you flip a coin for each Lightning type Energy card attached to Alolan Golem. This card's second move is called Heavy Slam, for four Energy cards, one Lightning and three Colorless, this move does 200 damage minus 30 damage for each Colorless Energy in your opponent's Active Pokemon's retreat cost.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Alolan Golem is a Stage 2 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Alolan Geodude into play and then evolve it into Alolan Graveler before you can evolve Alolan Graveler into Alolan Golem, both of those Pokemon are from this set and I've reviewed both of them the last two days. If you've read my reviews of those cards you'll know that I thought both cards were below average overall. Both cards had solid HP and a couple of moves each, but neither card was worth using, both were slow on the attack when attacking for damage, and neither card had a move that could consistently do above average damage. This Alolan Golem card is similar to the first two Pokemon in this line, this card has an above average HP and two moves, with some potential to do major damage, but no path to consistently doing a good amount of damage. Possibly, if you're using 4 Trick Coin Trainer cards in your deck, you could use a 1-1-1 line of this Pokemon family and have a shot at doing 200+ damage with Electromagnetic Rock Wrecker, but I think I would pass entirely on this line.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating. In my opinion this is a below average Stage 2 Pokemon card from the Guardians Rising set. Like I mentioned above, this card does have a good HP and two moves that have potential to do major damage, but with a high retreat cost, and both moves not guaranteed to do major damage, I would pass on this line altogether. Overall, I can't give this card anything higher than a 2 out of 5 rating.
