Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Mightyena from the Phantom Forces Pokemon Card Set. Mightyena is a stage 1, darkness type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90. It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to psychic type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Mightyena does not have an Ability but it does have two moves. The first move that this card has is called Crunch, for two energy cards, one each of darkness and colorless, this move does 30 damage, plus if you get a heads when you flip a coin, you get to discard an energy card attached to your opponent's active Pokemon. Mightyena's second move is called Darkness Fang, for three energy cards, two colorless and one darkness, this move does 80 damage.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Mightyena is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Poochyena into play (I reviewed Poochyena from this set yesterday) and then evolve Poochyena into Mightyena. If you read yesterday's review of Poochyena, you'll know that I thought that card was a slightly below average Basic Pokemon card. It was really pretty good overall with an average HP, low retreat cost, and two moves, but it really could only do 10 damage per turn because the second move it had was entirely based on the flip of a coin. So knowing this about Poochyena and looking at this Mightyena card, if you're building a darkness type deck and need a bit of power in it, this Pokemon family is worth considering. I wouldn't use more than a 1-1 line of Poochyena and Mightyena and try and get Mightyena into the active Pokemon spot with three energy cards on it as soon as possible in the game. That way you can do 80 damage a turn and knock out most Basic Pokemon in one move, almost all Pokemon in two moves. As strong as Darkness Fang is, the one thing you'll have to be careful of later in games is that Mightyena only has 90 HP, so it could get knocked out fairly fast.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating. In my opinion this is an average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Phantom Forces set. There really isn't anything that I dislike about this card, but there just isn't anything on this card that wows me either. I really like that this card can do 80 damage a turn plus the fact it has two moves. Pair it with Poochyena from this set, and I would give the two a 3 out of 5 rating, they definitely could be used in a darkness type deck.
