Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Amoonguss from the Plasma Storm Pokemon Card Set. Amoonguss is a stage 1, grass type Pokemon card, with an hp of 90. It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to water type Pokemon, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost. Amoonguss does not have an Ability but it does have two moves. The first move it has is called Astonish, this move requires one colorless energy card and let's you flip a coin, if you get head you get to choose three cards from your opponent's hand at random and have them move those cards back into their deck. Amoonguss's second move is called Miracle Powder, this move requires two energy cards, one each of grass and colorless and does 30 damage, plus if you get a heads when you flip a coin, you may inflict any type of special condition you would like on that Pokemon.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Amoonguss is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Foongus into play (I reviewed Foongus from this set yesterday) and then evolve Foongus into Amoonguss. If you read yesterday's review, you'll know that I thought Foongus was dreadful and I didn't recommend using it at all. There are actually several Foongus card from the Black and White sets and the one I would recommend would be the one from Noble Victories, this card does 20 damage for only one energy card, however it does only have 40 hp. So whichever Foongus you choose to use, hopefully not the Plasma Storm one, I would still keep Foongus on the bench if possible because they all have such a low hp, I would then evolve Foongus into Amoonguss, attach two energy cards to it and then move it into the active Pokemon spot at an opportune time. I would try and use Miracle Powder every turn, each time inflicting a different special condition for each heads that I would get. If you use the Noble Victories Foongus, I would suggest using a 2-2 line of Foongus and Amoonguss in a deck that includes lots of Pokemon that can inflict special conditions on your opponent's Pokemon.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating. In my opinion this is a very solid, yet average stage 1 Pokemon card. I like its hp, retreat cost, and one of its moves, still, just like Foongus's Astonish move, I would rather have a move on this card that does some damage and does something for sure every turn instead of something that requires a coin flip. So overall, if I was to grade the Foongus and Amoonguss cards from this set, I am going to give them a 2 out of 5 rating, the below average rating is because Foongus from this set is so so bad.
