Shiftry -- Steam Siege Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Shiftry from the Steam Siege Pokemon Card Set.  Shiftry is a stage 2, grass and darkness type Pokemon card, with an hp of 140.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Shiftry does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Wicked Wind, for one grass energy card this move does 40 damage, plus until the end of your opponent's next turn, each Pokemon Tool and Pokemon Stadium card in play has no effect.  Shiftry's second move is called Extrasensory, for two colorless energy cards this move does 60 damage plus 60 more damage if you have the exact same number of cards in your hand as your opponent.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Shiftry is a stage 2 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Seedot into play and then evolve it into Nuzleaf before you can evolve Nuzleaf into Shiftry, both of those Pokemon are from this set and I've reviewed both of them the last two days.  If you've read my reviews of those cards you'll know that I thought both were below average.  Both of the first two Pokemon in this line were pretty under-powered, and Seedot really could not be used on its own since it couldn't do any damage when attacking.  So knowing this about the first two Pokemon in this line and looking at this Shiftry card, if you are building a deck around avoiding Pokemon Tool and Stadium cards, it could be very useful to use a 1-1-1 line of this family so that you can put Shiftry into the active Pokemon spot and use Wicked Wind every turn, and ruining your opponent's strategy.  However, if you plan on using Tool and Stadium cards, the other option is to use Extrasensory, which essentially can do up to 120 damage a turn for only one special energy card, and since you can use cards in your hand before attacking it should be easy to get the same number of cards in your hand as your opponent's unless they have a significantly higher amount of cards in their hand.  Overall, this card has some potential, but because of how poor Nuzleaf and Seedot are, this card isn't one you'll see in that many decks out there.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an average Stage 2 Pokemon card from the Fates Collide set.  This card is just plain average overall, it has a solid HP, standard retreat cost, and two good but not great moves.  This card is quick on the attack and can do some major damage, but evolves some luck when using this card.  Altogether, I would give this entire Pokemon family a 2 out of 5 rating, it is worth a look, but not a long one.

Shiftry -- BREAKpoint Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Shiftry from the BREAKpoint Pokemon Card Set.  Shiftry is a stage 2, darkness type Pokemon card, with an hp of 140.  It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to psychic type Pokemon, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Shiftry does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Roll Up, for two energy cards, one each of darkness and colorless, this move says to flip 3 coins, if any are heads, your opponent must show you their hand, then for each heads, you get to discard a card from your opponent's hand.  Shiftry's second move is called Otherworldly Return and for three energy cards, two colorless and one darkness, this move does 60 damage, plus it allows you to return a trainer card from your discard pile back into your hand.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Shiftry is a stage 2 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Seedot into play and then evolve it into Nuzleaf before you can evolve Nuzleaf into Shiftry, both of those Pokemon are from this set and I've reviewed both of them previously.  If you've read my reviews of those cards you'll know that I thought both Pokemon were below average overall.  I liked the fact that both Pokemon could attack quickly, but both were limited in the amount of damage you could do and both had lower HP than I'd like to see on a Basic and Stage 1 evolution.  So knowing this about the first two Pokemon in this line and looking at this Shiftry card, the reason you'd want to use this entire line in a deck is because of its Roll Up move, attach a Trick Coin trainer to this Pokemon and you have a very good chance at really disrupting your opponent's strategy, plus you'll know which cards your opponent has.  So while I wouldn't recommend this line be your main Pokemon in a deck, I could see using a 1-1-1 line of this Pokemon family to implement this strategy.  Plus, like I said, all three Pokemon in this line have decent attacks, so you could always use them to attack if need be.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an average Stage 2 Pokemon card that could be really good in certain situations.  If your opponent is unable to retrieve cards from their discard pile, Shiftry is a game changer and a card that could be rated a 5 out of 5.  Other than that, this card is average overall, being able to do 60 damage for three energy cards, and having a low retreat cost.  Together with the first two Pokemon in this line, which I each gave a 2 out of 5 rating, this entire line gets a 3 out of 5 rating from me.

Shiftry -- Flashfire Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Shiftry from the Flashfire Pokemon Card Set.  Shiftry is a stage 2, grass type Pokemon card, with an hp of 140.  It has a x2 weakness to fire type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Shiftry's Ability is called Leaf Draw, this allows you to discard a grass energy card from hand and draw up to three new cards from your deck.  Besides the Ability, Shiftry just has one move called Deranged Dance, this move requires three energy cards, two colorless and one grass, and does 20 damage times the number of benched Pokemon in play, both yours and your opponent's.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Shiftry is a stage 2 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Seedot into play and then evolve it into Nuzleaf before you can evolve Nuzleaf into Shiftry, both of those Pokemon are from this set and I've reviewed both of them the last couple of days.  Both of those Pokemon cards are pretty horrible, Seedot being extremely bad.  Because of this, I would hardly use any of the Pokemon in this line if I were using this line in a deck.  I would use a 1-1-1 line of Seedot, Nuzleaf, and Shiftry and I would try and set up this entire line on the bench.  That way I could put three energy cards on Shiftry and utilize Shiftry's Ability from the bench without having to move it to the active Pokemon spot.  Then when the game has gone on for awhile and both benches are full or close to full, I would move Shiftry into the active Pokemon spot, use Deranged Dance a couple of turns then retreat it back to the bench so I could continue to use its Ability.  This Ability allows you to remove any trainer cards from your deck that let you draw cards from your deck.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an above average stage 2 Pokemon card from the Flashfire set.  There isn't anything I don't like about this card, I like its hp of 140, it is solid, a 2 colorless energy card retreat cost is average, and then the Ability on this card is very good, and if Shiftry only had the Ability and no move I would still give this card an average rating.  I really like Shiftry's move especially if all of the bench spots are full, the reason I wouldn't give this card a 5 out of 5 is because Deranged Dance may end up doing no damage at all later in games.  Overall, I would give the entire line of Seedot, Nuzleaf, and Shiftry a 2 out of 5 rating and I probably wouldn't use this line in a deck.  Individually I gave these Pokemon a 1, 2, a 4 rating.
