Raticate -- Evolutions Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Raticate from the XY Evolutions Pokemon Card Set.  Raticate is a Stage 1, colorless type Pokemon card, with a HP of 60. It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost.  Raticate does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Crunch, for one colorless energy card this move does 10 damage, plus you can discard an energy attached to your opponent's active Pokemon.  Raticate's second move is called Shadowy Bite, for one colorless energy card this move does 60 damage times the number of special energy cards in your opponent's discard pile.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Raticate is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Rattata into play (I reviewed Rattata from this set yesterday) and then evolve Rattata into Raticate.  If you read yesterday's review of Rattata, you'll know that I thought it was a below average Basic Pokemon card overall, mainly because of its low HP and the fact it only had one move.  I did like that Rattata could be used in any type deck, it could attack for only one energy card, and its Ability, Mischievous Fang could be very effective if able to be used multiple times.  So knowing this about Rattata from this set and looking at this Raticate card, the first thing you'll want to notice is Raticate's extremely low HP, which in my opinion, really makes this card unusable.  Considering this low HP, and the fact that you're going to need some luck to do more than 10 damage with this card, means you'll either pass on this line entirely, or use it with the Raticate BREAK card from BREAKpoint which is very good, and can do a lot of damage.  So with this Raticate card, you're going to want to use Crunch first to discard a special energy attached to the defending Pokemon, then Shadowy Bite second to do at least 60 damage.  If your opponent isn't using special energy cards in their deck, or aren't using any on their active Pokemon, this Raticate card is worthless.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the XY Evolutions set.  This card does have some potential when facing a deck full of special energy cards, but outside of that, with such a low HP and moves based on too specific of situations, this card is one that won't be found in many decks.  Individually I gave both Rattata and Raticate 2 out of 5 ratings, the same rating I'm going to give to both cards combined, overall, both Pokemon have way too low of HP to be used very often.

Raticate -- BREAKpoint Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Raticate from the BREAKpoint Pokemon Card Set.  Raticate is a stage 1, colorless type Pokemon card, with an hp of 70. It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a free retreat cost.  Raticate has an Ability called Antibodies that says Raticate can't be affected by any Special Conditions.  Besides the Ability, Raticate just has one move called Dirty Shock, for one colorless energy card this move poisons the defending Pokemon and removes all Tool cards attached to that Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Raticate is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Rattata into play (I reviewed Rattata from this set yesterday) and then evolve Rattata into Raticate.  If you read yesterday's review of Rattata, you'll know that I thought that card was a pretty weak Pokemon with a very low HP, and only one move that would actually work out if you were able to play it first, since it retreats Rattata after using.  So knowing how weak Rattata from this set is and looking at this Raticate card, this Raticate card is pretty similar, since it has a low HP, and a pretty weak move.  So I would say without considering Raticate BREAK to avoid this line altogether.  Unless you think your opponent is going to use a lot of Tool cards, there is no reason to include any of these Pokemon in your deck.  At best, only use a 1-1 line.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a below average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the BREAKpoint set.  The only reason I'm giving this card a 2 rating as opposed to a 1 rating is because it has a free retreat cost and can be moved in and out of the active Pokemon spot without cost, but other than that, Raticate's move is pretty weak and can't do any other damage on than poisoning.  So together with Rattata from this set, I would give this line a 1 out of 5 rating.

Raticate -- Plasma Freeze Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Raticate from the Plasma Freeze Pokemon Card Set.  Raticate is a stage 1, colorless type Pokemon card, with an hp of 70.  It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a free retreat cost.  Raticate does not have an Ability, but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Transfer Junk, this move requires one colorless energy card and allows you to transfer a Team Plasma Pokemon, Trainer, and Energy card from your discard pile into your hand.  Raticate's second move is called Bite and this move does 30 damage for two colorless energy cards.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Raticate is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Rattata into play (I reviewed Rattata from this set yesterday) and then evolve Rattata into Raticate.  If you read yesterday's review, you'll know that I thought Rattata from this set was a miserable basic Pokemon card and what that should not be used in a deck on its own.  Because of this, if you want to use Raticate, I would highly recommend evolving Rattata into Raticate on your bench and putting two energy cards on Raticate before moving it into the active Pokemon spot.  I personally would not use this card in a deck, but would definitely consider using this line if your deck has one of these two things:  The first thing is if you have a deck with a lot of Team Plasma cards, then Raticate's Transfer Junk move will be very helpful.  The second scenario I would use this card in is if your deck includes many Pokemon that have free retreat costs, since Raticate has a free retreat cost and can attack fairly quickly, it should be added to the deck.  If you decide to use this card in a standard deck, your only choice will be to use Bite every turn you can.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is a below average stage 1 Pokemon card.  Even though this card has a really low hp, I am not giving this card a 1 rating because I think this card will be helpful in a couple different styles of decks, and since it has a free retreat cost, you can always move it for free.  Overall, the line of Rattata and Raticate from this set get a 2 out of 5 rating, Rattata was a 1 and Raticate was a 2.

Raticate -- Boundaries Crossed Pokemon Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Raticate from the Boundaries Crossed Pokemon Card Set.  Raticate is a stage 1, colorless type Pokemon card, with an hp of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a free retreat cost.  Raticate does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move this card has is called Gnaw Through, this move requires one colorless energy card and allows you to discard a Pokemon tool card attached to the defending Pokemon.  Raticate's second move is called Super Fang, this move requires three colorless energy cards and allows you to put damage counters on the defending Pokemon until it has 10 hp left.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Raticate is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Rattata into play (I reviewed Rattata from this set yesterday) and then evolve Rattata into Raticate.  If you read yesterday's review, you'll know that I thought Rattata was a horrible Pokemon card and one not to use in a deck, however after taking a look at this card, you may have to use one Rattata card in your deck so you can have one Raticate in your deck.  You would hope to just keep Rattata and Raticate on your bench, put three energy cards on Raticate and when your opponent puts a Pokemon into play that can either do a ton of damage, or one that has a massive hp, move Raticate into play, use Super Fang, and retreat it for free the next turn.  Because this card is a colorless type Pokemon card, this Pokemon line can be used in any deck, like I said earlier, I wouldn't use more than a 1-1 line of Rattata and Raticate in a deck, it is definitely risky to use this line in a deck, but it could definitely do a great deal of damage if it faces the right Pokemon.

Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an average stage 1 Pokemon card. Even though this card has a low hp and only one good move, I am still giving this an average rating, I feel that Raticate's free retreat cost and Super Fang move make up for its other shortcomings.  Overall, I can only give this Pokemon line a 2 out of 5 rating.
